tau to svalpena kālena damaghoṣena saṅgatau |
athādhvavidhinā tau tu paṣcarātroṣitau pathi || 2-45-1
Translation
vaiśampāyana said:
They, within some days, along with damaghoṣa, undertook the journey as per the time required. On the way, they halted for five nights.
damaghoṣeṇa saṅgamya ekarātroṣitāviva |
With damaghoṣa, they felt that as if it was only one night.
jagmatuḥ sahitau vīrau mudā paramayā yutau |
nagarīṁ mathurāṁ prāptau vasudevasutāvubhau ||2-45-2

The valiant happily went together. Both the sons of vasudeva arrived at the city of mathurā.
tataḥ pratyudgatāḥ sarve yādavā yadunandanau |
sabalā hṛṣṭamanasa ugrasenapurogamāḥ ||2-45-3

Then all the yādava-s, lead by ugrasena, along with the army, happily welcomed the sons of yadu.
śreṇyaḥ prakṛtayaścaiva mantriṇaścha yathochitāḥ |
sabālavṛddhā sā caiva purī samabhivartata ||2-45-4

All the residents including common men, ministers as suitable, old and young men and the entire city welcomed them.
nanditūryāṇyavādyanta stūyetāṁ puruṣarṣabhau |
rathyāpatākāmālinyo bhāsanti sma samantataḥ ||2-45-5

They played musical instruments such as nandi and tūrya and praised the best among men. The streets, decorated with flags were dazzling.
hṛṣṭā pramuditā sarvā purī paramaśobhitā |

With the arrival of the brothers, the entire city dazzled the most, as during the occasion of the festival of indra.
muditāstatra gāyanti rājamārgeṣu gāyakāḥ |

The singers sang happily in the royal streets. The songs of praise and blessings , most dear to yādava-s were sung there:
govindarāmau saṁprāptau bhrātarau lokavishrutau |

govinda (kṛṣṇa) and (bala)rāma, the brothers, famous in the world have come. All the yādava-s, without any fear, should enjoy life in the city comfortably.
na tatra kaśchiddīno vā malino vā vichetanaḥ |

On the arrival of ( bala)rāma and kṛṣṇa, there were no miserable, poor or people with lost intellect anywhere in mathurā.
vayāṁsi sāduvākyāni prahṛṣṭā gohayadvipāḥ |
naranārīgaṇāścaiva bhejire mānasaṁ sukham ||2-45-10

The birds chirped sweetly. The cows, horses and elephants were happy. The men and women also enjoyed mental peace.
śivāścha pravavurvātā virajaskā disho daśa |
daivatānyapi sarvāṇi hṛṣyantyāyataneṣvatha ||2-45-11

Auspicious winds blew. All the ten directions became dust free. The deities were happy in all the places of worship.
yāni liṅgāni lokasya vṛttānīha kṛte yuge |

All the signs of the golden age were seen again in the world, when they (kṛṣṇa and balarāma) arrived (at mathurā).

At an auspicious and sacred time, the valiant oppressors of enemies, entered the city of mathurā, in a chariot driven by horses.

The yādava-s followed (bala)rāma and govinda (kṛṣṇa), who entered the beautiful (city of) mathurā, like deva-s follow śakra (indra).

The sons of yadu-s, with joyful faces, entered the residence of vasudeva like moon and sun enter the mountain.

They kept their weapons in the house and wandered freely. vasudeva's two sons, the great men of yadu race enjoyed fully.
tatastu vasudevasya pādau samabhipīḍya ca |
tatrograsenaṁ rājānamanyāṁścha yadupuṅgavān ||2-45-17
yathānyāyaṁ pūjayitvā tau sarvaiścābhinanditau |
Then the brothers pressed the feet of vasudeva and welcomed king ugrasena and other yādava leaders in the appropriate way. All of them congratulated the brothers.
jagmaturhṛṣṭamanasau mātureva niveshanam ||2-45-18
The brothers happily went to the residence of their mother.
evaṁ tāvekanirmāṇau mathurāyāṁ śubhānanau |
ugrasenānugau bhūtvā kaṣchitkālaṁ mumodatuḥ ||2-45-19

In this way, the two brothers with auspicious faces, manifesting one soul in two bodies, lived in mathurā for some time as followers of ugrasena.
iti śrīmahābhārate khileṣu harivaṁśe viṣṇuparvaṇī rāmakṛṣṇayormathurāyāṁ pratyāgamane paṣchacatvāriṁśo'dhyāyaḥ
Thus this is the forty-fifth chapter of viṣṇuparva of harivaṁśa, khila of śrimahābhārata, balarāma and kṛṣṇa arrive in mathurā.
