Parva 3 Chapter 117: haṁsavākyam - Speech of haṁsa

vaiśampāyana said: (O janamejaya!) Speaking thus to the brahmin, kṛṣṇa again spoke to sātyaki: O son of shini! Go along with the brahmin (janārdana) and tell my words to both of them (haṁsa and ḍimbhaka). yanmayoktamaśeṣeṇa vada gatvā tayoḥ puraḥ | yathā naḥ saṅgatiryuddhe tathā vada balāttadā ||3-117-2 Tell all that are spoken by me in front of them without leaving anything. Also say that we shall meet them in the battle field along with our army. dhanurādāya gaccha tvaṁ baddhagodhāṅgulitravān | ekenāśvena gaccha tvamasahāyo yadūttama ||3-117-3 Go there taking your bow along with you wearing the alligator's skin on your fingers. O the best among yādava-s! Go alone with one horse. sātyakistaṁ tathetyuktvā hayamāruhya śīghragam | gantumaicchattato rājannasahāyaḥ sa sātyakiḥ ||3-117-4 sātyaki said: Let it be so. Then O king! (janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued) sātyaki mounted on a fast moving horse and proceeded without any help. janārdanaṁ visṛjyāśu dūtaṁ taṁ yādaveśvaraḥ | aho dhārṣṭyamaho dhārṣṭyamityuvāca janārdanaḥ ||3-117-5 The lord of yādava-s (kṛṣṇa) made the messenger janārdana take leave. janārdana (kṛṣṇa) said: Alas! What an audacity! What an audacity! namskṛtya tadā dūto mādhavaṁ mādhaveśvaram | sa yayau śālvanagaraṁ shaineyena samanvitaḥ ||3-117-6 Then the messenger (janārdana) bowed to the Lord of gods (mādhava, kṛṣṇa) and proceeded to the city of śālva accompanied by the son of shini (sātyaki). tataḥ pravishya dharmātmā brāhmaṇo brahmavittamaḥ | āsanaṁ mahadāsthāya viṣṛjya yādave punaḥ ||3-117-7 Reaching there, the one with a soul of dharma, the twice born, the one who is knowledgeable about dharma (janārdana) sat on a great seat and offered another seat to the yādava (sātyaki). Aste sukhaṁ yadā vipraḥ shaineyena samanvitaḥ | atha taṁ haṁsaḍimbhayordarśayāmāsa sātyakim ||3-117-8 After the Brahmin (janārdana) was seated comfortably accompanied by the son of shini (sātyaki), he presented sātyaki to haṁsa and ḍimbhaka. dūto'yaṁ sātyakiḥ prāptaḥ savyo bāhurayaṁ hareḥ | tasya tadvacanaṁ śrutvā haṁsaḥ prāha vacastadā ||3-117-9 "The messenger, sātyaki, the right hand of hari (viṣṇu, kṛṣṇa) has arrived." Hearing his words, haṁsa spoke these words: śrutaḥ samāgamaḥ pūrvamadya dṛṣṭo mayā tvasau | dhanurvede ca vede ca śāstre shastre tathaiva ca ||3-117-10 nipuṇo'yaṁ sadā dhīro ityevamanuśuśruma | I heard before that he was coming. Now I have seen him. I have heard that he is an expert in the science of archery, veda as well as all religious treatises and weapons. Also he is valiant always. atho dṛṣṭapathaṁ prāptaḥ prītiṁ nau vidadhātyasau ||3-117-11 Now that I am seeing him, I am highly pleased. kuśalaṁ vāsudevasya balabhadrasya vā punaḥ | kuśalāḥ sātvatāḥ sarve ugrasenapurogamāḥ ||3-117-12 vāsudeva must be well as also balabhadra (rāma). All those belonging to the race of sātvata-s starting with (king) ugrasena must be well. tatheti sātyakiḥ prāha mandamunmathitānanaḥ | tato janārdanaṁ prāha haṁso vākyaviśāradaḥ ||3-117-13 sātayki said slowly raising his face: Yes. It is so. Then haṁsa, the expert in words spoke to janārdana. api dṛṣṭastvayā cakrī siddhaṁ naḥ kāryamīhitam | vada sarvamaśeṣeṇa ma vṛthā kālamatyagāḥ ||3-117-14 Have you seen the one who holds cakra (viṣṇu, kṛṣṇa)? Has our purpose been served?
