Parva 3 Chapter 131: śrīkṛṣṇasya dvāravatīgamanam - kṛṣṇa, praised by sages at puṣkara, returns to dvāraka

vaiśampāyana uvāca gacchannatha mahāviṣṇuḥ puṣkaram prāpya yādavaiḥ | apaśyanmunimukhyāṁstu puṣkarasthānnṛpottama ||131-1

Translation

vaiśampāyana said: O the best among kings! (janamejaya!) As he proceeded (to dvāraka) along with yādava-s, the great viṣṇu (kṛṣṇa) reached puṣkaram and met the prominent sages residing at puṣkaram. te sametya mahādevamṛṣayo vītamatsarāḥ | arghyādisamudācāraṁ kṛtvainaṁ yādavottamam ||3-131-2 All the sages together, devoid of any competing spirit, received the great deva (kṛśna), and offered water etc., to the best among yādava-s (kṛṣṇa) at the respectful reception. prochurviśveśvaraṁ viṣṇuṁ bhūtabhavyabhavatprabhum | The sages told the Lord of the worlds, viṣṇu (kṛṣṇa), the lord of the pas, present and future: atyadbhutamidaṁ viṣṇo tava vīryaṁ janārdana ||3-131-3 yena tau nihatau yuddhe haṁso ḍimbhaka eva ca | (The sages said:) O viṣṇu! O janārdana (kṛṣṇa)! Your valiance is most wonderful, in killing haṁsa and ḍimbhaka in the battle. yo vicakro durādharṣo devairapi suduḥsahaḥ ||3-131-4 saṅgare nihato deva duḥsādhya iti no matiḥ | O lord! Killing vicakra, who can not be conquered even by deva-s, in battle was a difficult task to be done. We thought it to be impossible. kṣemo naḥ sarvakāryeṣu charatāṁ tapa uttamam ||3-131-5 All of us who are performing the best of penance are now at ease. niṣkalmaṣā bhaviṣyāmastava saṁsmaraṇāddhare | tvaṁ hi sarvasya duḥkhasya hartā tvāṁ dhyāyatāṁ sadā ||3-131-6 O hari (viṣṇu, kṛṣṇa)! We shall become devoid of all sins by remembering you. You are the destroyer of the sorrows of all those who meditate on you. tvadanusmaraṇaṁ jantoḥ sadā puṇyapradaṁ prabho | tvaṁ hi naḥ satataṁ dhātā vidhātā tapaso hareḥ ||3-131-7 O lord! Remembering you will always be meritorious for beings. O hari! For us, you are always the originator, promoter and the lord who grants the result of penance (See nīlakaṇṭha commentary). tvamomkāro vaṣaṭkārastvaṁ yajṣastvaṁ pitāmahaḥ | tvaṁ jyotirbrahmaṇo mūrtistvaṁ brahmā rudra eva ca ||3-131-8 You are the Omkāra, you are the exclamation uttered by the priest at the end of the sacrificial verse, you are the sacrifice, you are the great grandfather. You are the light appearing in the three worlds, you are the body of brahman. You are brahma as well as rudra. prāṇastvaṁ sarvabhūtānāmantarātmeti kathyate | upāsyaḥ sarvabhūtānāṁ yajṣairdānairjagatpate ||3-131-9 You are the life force. You are said to be the inner soul of all beings. O lord of the universe! You are to be worshipped by all beings with sacrifices and offerings. namo viśvasṛje deva namaste viśvamūrtaye | pāhi lokamimaṁ deva hatvā brahmadviṣaḥ sadā ||3-131-10 We bow to the creator of the world. We bow to the bodily form of the world. O lord! Always protect the world by killing those who hate brahma. sa tatheti harirviṣṇuryayau dvāravatīṁ purīṁ | avasadvṛṣṇibhiḥ sārdhaṁ stūyamānaḥ samāgadhaiḥ ||3-131-11 (O janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued) saying "let it be", hari, viṣṇu (kṛṣṇa) proceeded to the city of doors. He stayed there along with vṛṣṇi-s, praised by the bards. iyaṁ ca devadevasya ceṣṭā hi janamejaya | proktā te pṛcchate rājankimanyacchrutamicchasi ||3-131-12 O janamejaya! (vaiśampāyana continued) I have described also this deed (killing of vicakra, haṁsa and ḍimbhaka) of the lord of gods (viṣṇu, kṛṣṇa) to you who asked about it. O king!
