vaiśampāyana uvāca
harivaṁśe'tra vṛttāntāḥ prakīrtyante kramoditāḥ |
tatrādyamādisargastu bhūtasargastataḥ paraḥ ||3-134-1
vaiśampāyana said:
(O janamejaya!) I shall now briefly recite the events described in harivaṁśa in order. The first (in harivamsha parva) is the primary creation (Adisarga), followed by the creation of beings (bhūtasarga).
pṛthorvainyasya cākhyānaṁ manūnāṁ kīrtanaṁ tathā |
vaivasvatakulotpattirdhundhumārakathā tathā ||3-134-2
The emergence of pṛthu, the son of vena and the description of manu, the emergence of the race of vaivasvata as well as the episode of dhundhumāra,
gālavotpattirikṣvākuvaṁśasyāpyanukīrtanam |
pitṛkalpastathotpattiḥ somasya ca budhasya ca ||3-134-3
the legend of gālava, the description of the race of ikṣvāku, the beatification of manes, the emergence of soma and budha,
amāvasoranvayasya kīrtanaṁ kīrtivardhanam |
cyutipratiṣṭhe śakrasya prasavaḥ kṣatravṛddhajaḥ ||3-134-4
the dynasty of amāvasu which increases the fame of the reciter and listener, the fall and re-establishment of śakra (indra), the dynasty of kṣatravṛddha,
divodāsapratiṣṭhā ca triśaṅkoḥ kṣatriyasya ca |
yayāticaritaṁ caiva puruvaṁśasya kīrtanam ||3-134-5
the legends of divodāsa as well as that of the kṣatriya king triśaṅku, the legend of yayāti and the dynasty of puru,
kīrtanaṁ kṛṣṇasaṁbhūteḥ syamantakamaṇestathā |
saṅkṣepātkīrtitā viṣṇoḥ prādurbhāvāstataḥ param ||3-134-6
the dynasty of kṛṣṇa and the legend of the jewel syamantaka, and brief descriptions of the manifestations of viṣṇu,
tārakāmayayuddhaṁ ca brahmalokasya varṇanam |
yoganidrāsamutthānaṁ viṣṇorvākyaṁ ca vedhasaḥ ||3-134-7
the battle of tārakāmaya and the description of the world of brahma, the awakening of viṣṇu from yoganidra, the words of viṣṇu as well as the words of brahma,
pṛthvīvākyaṁ ca devānāmaṁśāvataraṇaṁ tathā |
the appeal of mother earth and the prototypal incarnations of the gods are described.

tato nāradavākyaṁ ca svapnagarbhavidhistathā ||3-134-8
(In viṣṇu parva) nārada's appeal to viṣṇu, the transfer of ṣaḍgarbha to the womb,
āryāstavaḥ punaḥ kṛṣṇasamutpattiḥ prapaṣchataḥ |
govraje gamanaṁ viṣṇoḥ śakaṭasya nivartanam ||3-134-9
hymn to ārya, the emergence of kṛṣṇa, relocation to vraja and elimination of the śakaṭa,
pūtanāyā vadho bhaṅgo yamalārjunayorapi |
vṛkasaṁdarśanaṁ caiva vṛndāvananiveśanam ||3-134-10
elimination of pūtana, the snapping of yamala - arjuna trees, attack by wolves and also moving to the forest vṛndāvana,
prāvṛṣo varṇanaṁ cāpi yamunāhradadarśanam |
kāliyasyāpi damanaṁ dhenukasya ca bhaṣjanam ||3-134-11
description of the rainy season as well as seeing the pool at the river yamunā, subjugation of the serpent kāliya, destruction of dhenuka
pralambanidhanaṁ caiva śaradvarṇanameva ca |
giriyajṣapravṛttiścha govardhanavidhāraṇam ||3-134-12
and elimination of pralamba (by balarāma) as well as the description of the autumn season, performance of sacrifice to the mountain and hoisting the mountain govardhana,
govindasyābhiṣekaṁ ca gopīsaṅkrīḍanam tathā |
riṣṭāsurasya nidhanamakrūrapreṣaṇaṁ tathā ||3-134-13
honouring govinda (kṛṣṇa), playing with gopīs, elimination of demon ariṣṭa and sending akrūra to vraja (by kaṁsa),
andhakasya ca vākyāni keshino nidhanaṁ tathā |
akrūrāgamanaṁ caiva nāgalokasya darshanam ||3-134-14
andhaka admonishing kaṁsa, elimination of keshi, arrival of akrūra and his vision of the world of serpents,
dhanurbhaṅgasya kathanaṁ kaṁsavākyamataḥ paraṁ |
kuvalayāpīḍavadhaścāṇūrāndhravadhastathā||3-134-15
description of the breaking of the bow (of kaṁsa) and the words of kaṁsa, slaying of the elephant kuvalayapīḍa as well as the elimination of the wrestlers cāṇūra and Andhra (muṣṭika)
kaṁsasya nidhanaṁ cāpi vilāpaḥ kaṁsayoṣitām |
ugrasenābhiṣekaścha yādavāśvāsanaṁ tathā ||3-134-16
slaying of kaṁsa and the grief of the wives of kaṁsa, coronation of ugrasena as the king and consolation of yādava-s,
pratyāgatirgurukulādathoktā rāmakṛṣṇayoḥ |
mathurāyāśchoparodho jarāsandhanivartanam ||3-134-17
the returning of (bala) rāma and kṛṣṇa from the preceptor's home, the siege of mathurā by jarāsandha and his defeat,
vikadruvākyaṁ rāmasya darśanaṁ bhāṣaṇaṁ tathā |
gomantārohaṇaṁ cāpi jarāsandhagatistathā ||3-134-18
the words of vikadru, meeting with paraśurāma and his advice, ascent of gomanta mountain and the attack by jarāsandha,
gomantasya girerdāhaḥ karavīrapure gatiḥ |
śṛgālasya vadhastatra mathurāgamanaṁ tataḥ ||3-134-19
the burning of the mountain gomanta and the journey to the city of karavīra, slaying of śṛgāla and returning to mathurā,
yamunākarṣaṇaṁ caiva mathurāpakramastathā |
upāyena vadhaḥ kālayavanasya prakīrtitaḥ ||3-134-20
dragging of Yamuna, retreat from mathurā, the slaying of kālayavana by using a strategy,
nirmāṇaṁ dvāravatyāstu rukmiṇīharaṇaṁ tathā |
vivāhaścaiva rukmiṇyā rukmiṇo nidhanaṁ tathā ||3-134-21
construction of the city of doors (dvāravatī), taking away of rukmiṇi, marrying rukmiṇi, slaying of rukmi,
baladevāhnikaṁ puṇyaṁ balamāhātmyameva ca |
narakasya vadhaḥ pārijātasya haraṇaṁ tathā ||3-134-22
the meritorious mantra by baladeva and the greatness of balarāma, slaying of naraka and the taking away of pārijāta,
dvāravatyā viśeṣeṇa punarnirmāṇakīrtanam |
dvārakāyāṁ praveshashcha sabhāyāṁ ca praveshanam ||3-134-23
the special beautification of the city of doors (dvāravati), entering the beautified city of dvāravati and entering the assembly (after the conquest),
nāradasya ca vākyāni vṛṣṇivaṁśānukīrtanam |
ṣaṭpurasya vadhākhyānamandhakasya nibarhaṇam ||3-134-24
praise by nārada and the narration of the race of vṛṣṇi-s, the description of the destruction of ṣaṭpura and the slaying of andhaka,
samudrayātrā kṛṣṇasya jalakrīḍākutūhalam |
tathā bhaimapravīrāṇāṁ madhupānapravartakam ||3-134-25
kṛṣṇa's journey through the sea, his curiosity in playing in water, also the drinking of madhu by the prominent of the race of bhīma,
tataścālikyagāndharvasamudāharaṇam hareḥ |
bhānoścha duhiturbhānumatyā haraṇakīrtanam ||3-134-26
the cālikya - gandharva sport by kṛṣṇa and others, the taking away of bhāṇu's daughter bhānumati
shambarasya vadhashcaiva dhanyopākhyānameva ca |
vāsudevasya mahātmyaṁ bāṇayuddhaṁ prapaṣchitam ||3-134-27
the slaying of shambara as well as the quest for the extraordinary, the greatness of vāsudeva and the battle with bāṇa are described.

bhaviṣyaṁ puṣkaraṁ caiva prapaṣchenaiva kīrtitaṁ |
varāhaṁ nārasiṁhaṁ ca vāmanaṁ bahuvistaram ||3-134-28
In the bhaviṣya parva, the detailed descriptions of manifestation of puṣkara, the manifestations of varāha (the boar), narasiṁha (man-lion) and vāmana,
kailāsayātrā kṛṣṇasya paundrakasya vadhastataḥ |
haṁsasya ḍimbhakasyaiva vadhashcaiva prakīrtitaḥ ||3-134-29
kṛṣṇa's journey to kailāsa, slaying of pauṇḍraka, slaying of haṁsa and ḍimbhaka are described.
puratrayasya saṁhāra iti vṛttāntasaṅgrahaḥ |
kathito nṛpaśārdūla sarvapāpapraṇāśanaḥ ||3-134-30
bhaviṣya parva concludes with the description of the destruction of the three cities by shiva and a precise of harivaṁśa. O the tiger among kings! (janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued) I have told you briefly all this, which is capable of destroying all sins.
vṛttāntaṁ śṛṇuyādyastu sāyaṁ prātaḥ samāhitaḥ |
sa yāti vaiṣṇavaṁ dhāma labdhakāmāḥ kurūdvaha |
If one hears this daily with attention in the morning and evening he shall attain the abode of viṣṇu. He will achieve all his desires, O the eminent one of the race of kuru! (janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued).
dhanyaṁ yaśasyamāyuṣyaṁ bhuktimuktiphalapradam ||3-134-31
(O janamejaya! vaiśampāyana continued) Hearing mahābharata along with harivaṁśa is blessed, causes fame and increases the life span. It provides prosperity as well as liberation in the end.
