Parva 3 Chapter 75: dvāravatīrakṣaṇe yādavān prati śrīkṛṣṇasya vacanam - kṛṣṇa addresses the yādava to protect dvāravati

The auspicious lord (kṛṣṇa said): O sātyakī! Hear my words. O the best among the fighters! Be ready. You shall be ready with your shield and holding the sword, mace, bow and arrow in your arms. tiṣṭha yatnena rakṣasva purīṁ bahunṛpāśrayām | na ca nidrā tvayā kāryā ratrau yaduvṛṣa prabho ||3-75-2 You shall be ready with attention to protect the city which is the base of many kings. O lord! O the bull of the yādava race! You shall not sleep even during the night. na ca vyākhyā tvayā kāryā śāstrāṇāṁ śāstratatpara | na ca vādastvayā kāryo vādibhiḥ saha vṛṣṇipa ||3-75-3 O the one who is interested in śāstrā-s! Do not engage yourself in explaining the śāstras. O the prominent among the vṛṣṇi-s! Do not spend your time in arguing with those who are engaged in arguing. tvaṁ ca yoddhā balirjṣātā dhanurvedākhyavedavit | tathā kuru yathā vīra nopahāsyā bhavediyam ||3-75-4 You are the fighter. You are powerful and wise. You are the expert of the science of archery. O valiant! Perform in such a way that we are not laughed at by others. sātyakiruvāca kariṣyāmi vacastubhyaṁ yathāśakti janārdana | ājṣā tava jagannātha dhāryā yatnena me sadā ||3-75-5 sātyaki said: O the one who excites men (kṛṣṇa)! I shall do as per your words to the best of my power. O the lord of the world! I shall always carry out your order with all my effort. bhṛtyavatprachariṣyāmi kāmapālasya mādhava | yāvadāgamanaṁ tubhyaṁ tāvatsthāsyāmi yatnataḥ 3-75-6 O mādhava (kṛṣṇa)! I shall work as a servant of kāmapāla (balarāma). Till the time you return, I shall remain prepared with all my efforts. prasādastava govinda yadi syānmayi mādhava | kiṁ nāma me ca duḥsādhyaṁ śatrūṇāṁ nigrahe raṇe ||3-75-7 O govinda! If I have your pleasure on me, O mādhava! What remains impossible for me in the slaying of enemies in the battle? yadi śakraṁ yamaṁ vāpi kuberamapi pāśinam | sarvānetānvijeṣyāmi kimu pauṇḍraṁ nṛpottamam ||3-75-8 If I have your pleasure, I can conquer śakra, yama, kubera as well as the one with the rope (varuṇa), then what about paunḍra, the best among the kings? (I can conquer him easily.) gaccha kāryaṁ kuruṣvedaṁ yatto'haṁ satataṁ hare | uddhavaṁ punarāhedaṁ kṛṣṇaḥ padmanibhekṣaṇaḥ ||3-75-9 O hari (viṣṇu, kṛṣṇa), proceed (on your journey to kailāsa) and do your work. Here I am always ready. Then kṛṣṇa having eyes as beautiful as a lotus flower spoke to uddhava. śṛṇūddhava tvaṁ vākyaṁ me kuryāstvetatprayatnavān | rakṣyā nayena rājendra purī dvāravatī tvayā ||3-75-10 O uddhava! Hear my words. You shall do this with all your effort. O the indra of kings! You shall protect the city of doors with your policy. yatto bhava sadā tāta kuru sāhayyamatra naḥ | lajjā mama samutpannā vadatastava sāṁpratam ||3-75-11 O friend! You shall be ready always. You shall always assist us. Now I am ashamed to tell you this. tvaṁ hi netā samastasya vidyāpārasya sarvataḥ | ko nu śakṣyati medhāvī vaktuṁ vidyāvataḥ puraḥ ||3-75-12 You are the leader everywhere with your extensive knowledge in all topics. Is there anyone before you who can be said to be superior to you in knowledge? yatkāryaṁ tadbhavānvetti hyakāryaṁ cāpi sarvataḥ | ato'haṁ virame tāta vaktuṁ saṁprati vṛṣnipa ||3-75-13 You are aware of all that has to be done. You are not unaware of what is not to be done Hence O friend! O the chief of vṛṣṇai-s! I am retiring without saying anything further. uddhava uvāca kimidaṁ tava govinda vartate māṁ prati prabho | aho prasannatā mahyaṁ kiṁ tu prītiriyaṁ tava ||3-75-14 uddhava said: O govinda! Why is this (feeling) of yours about me, O lord! Oh! If you are pleased on me, then this also is your love. jānāmyahaṁ jagannātha prasādasyaiṣa vistaraḥ | yasya prasanno bhavati tasya kiṁ nāsti keśavaḥ ||3-75-15 O lord of the world! I know about the extent of your pleasure. O keshava! If you are pleased with some one, then there is nothing that is impossible for him. tvaṁ hi sarvasya jagataḥ kartā hartā pradhānataḥ | prabhavaḥ sarvakāryāṇāṁ vaktā śrotā pramāṇavit ||3-75-16 You are the creator, destroyer and the prime person for all the world. You are the source, speaker, listener and the principle of all matters. dhyātā dhyānamayo dhyeya iti brahmavido viduḥ | jetā devaripūṇāṁ ca goptā nākasadāṁ bhavān ||3-75-17 The wise who are knowledgeable about brahma say that you are the one who meditates, you are of meditation and you are to be meditated upon. You are the conqueror of the enemies of devas. You are always the one who protects the devas. tvannāthā vayameveti jīvāmo nihatadviṣaḥ | iyaṁ nītirahaṁ manye netā nīteryato bhavān ||3-75-18 We, having you as the leader, live comfortably, with our enemies slain. I consider this as justice. You are the one who leads us to justice. ko nu nāma nayo veda tvāṁ vinā sāmprataṁ vada | nītistvaṁ sarvakāryāṇāmiti me niśchitā matiḥ ||3-75-19 O lord! Please tell, at this time, who else is there to show the path of justice to us? My firm opinion is that you are the justice for all matter. durgāḍho nayamārgo'yamityāhustadvido janāḥ | It is difficult to enter the path of justice- so say the wise people. caturdhā procyate nītiḥ sāmadāne janārdana ||3-75-20 daṇḍo bhedo manuṣyāṇāṁ nigrahāvagrahe sadā | O the one who excite men (kṛṣṇa)! There are always four kinds of justice for men in obstacle of self by others and obstacle of others by self - agreement, giving away, differentiating and punishment. daṇḍyeṣu daṇḍamicchanti sāmānyaṁ tu naye hare ||3-75-21 balavatsvatha dānaṁ tu trayāṇāṁ apyagochare | prayoktavyo mahābheda iti nītimatām matam ||3-75-22 O hari( kṛṣṇa)! Punishment shall be given to those who deserve punishment (are weak). Agreement is generally desirable with equals. The powerful shall be given offerings. If all the three methods do not seem to work, then great differentiation should be used - This is the opinion of the experts of justice. teṣu teṣvatha sarveṣu pramāṇaṁ tvāṁ vidurbudhāḥ | kimatra bahunoktena sarvaṁ tvayi samarpitam ||3-75-23 But the wise people know that you are the guiding principle in all these. Why should I speak more? All these are dedicated to you. vaiśampāyana uvāca ityuktvā virarāmaiva uddhavo nītimattaraḥ | vaiśampāyana said: (O janamejaya) Speaking thus, the best among the experts of justice, uddhava retired. tataḥ sa bhagavānviṣṇurevameva nṛpottama ||3-75-24 kāmapālaṁ mahābāhumuvāca yadusaṁsadi | Then, O the best among the kings! (janamejaya! vaisahampāyana continued) Lord viṣṇu (kṛṣṇa) spoke to kāmapāla (balarāma), having great arms, in the assembly of the sons of yadu (yādava-s). ugrasenaṁ nṛpaṁ rājaṁstathā hārdikyameva ca ||3-75-25 kāmapālaṁ punarviṣṇuridaṁ provāca tattvavit | Again, Lord viṣṇu, the one who knows all principles, spoke to king ugrasena, the king (of yādava-s) , hārdikya (kṛtavarma) and kāmapāla (balarāma). na pramādastvayā kāryaḥ sarvadā yatnavānbhava ||3-75-26 sthite tvayi mahābāho kā pīḍā jagato bhavet | You should not commit any mistake in your work. Always have attention. If you are there, what harm can come to the world? gadī bhava sadā tvārya na krīḍā sarvadā bhavet ||3-75-27 O my elder brother! Always carry your mace. Do not be engaged in playing always. rakṣa tvaṁ sarvadā yatnātpurīṁ dvāravatīṁ prabho | nopahāsyā yathā syāma tathā kuru gadī bhava ||3-75-28 O lord! Make efforts to protect the city of doors (dvāraka) always. Carry the mace and do your work so that we are not laughed at by others. utsāhaḥ sarvadā kāryo nirutsāho na yatnataḥ | Be enthusiastic in your work and do not be disinterested in your efforts. bāḍhamityabravīdrāmaḥ kṛṣṇaṁ vṛṣṇikulodbhavam ||3-75-29 (vaiśampāyana said: O janamejaya!) Then balarāma said "Let it be so" to kṛṣṇa who is born in the race of vṛṣṇis. vṛṣnayaḥ sarva evaite svaṁ svaṁ sadma samāyayuḥ | gantumaicchajjagannāthaḥ kailāsaṁ parvatottamam 3-75-30 All the vṛṣṇi-s returned to their own residences.
