Parva 3 Chapter 86: śrīkṛṣṇasamīpe śivāgamanam - shri shiva's arrival near shri Kṛṣṇa

vaiśampāyana said: (O janamejaya!) Leading lord shiva, there were thousands of groups of bhūta-s including ghaṇṭākarṇa (having bells on the ears), virūpākṣa (having deformed eyes), kuṇḍadhāra (carrying water pot) and kumudvaha (carrying water lilies), dīrgharomā dīrghabhujo dīrghabāhurniraṣjanaḥ | urunetraḥ śatamukhaḥ śatagrīvaḥ śatodaraḥ ||3-86-2 dīrgharoma (having long hairs), dīrghabhuja (having long arms), dīrghabāhu (having long arms), niraṣjana (spotless), urunetra (having wide eyes), shatamukha (having hundred faces), śatagrīva (having hundred necks), shatodara (having hundred bellies), kuṇḍodaro mahāgrīvaḥ sthūlajihvo dvibāhukaḥ | pārśvavaktraḥ siṁhamukha unnatāṁso mahāhanuḥ ||3-86-3 kuṇḍodara (having bowl shaped bellies), mahāgrīva (having great neck), sthūlajihva (having a huge tongue), dvibāhuka (having double arms), pārśvavaktra (having face on the side), siṁhamuka (lion-faced), unnatāṁsa (having high shoulders) and mahāhanu (having great cheek), tribāhuḥ paṣchabāhuścha vyāghravaktraḥ sitānanaḥ | ete cānye ca bahavo dīrghāsyā dīrghalochanāḥ ||3-86-4 tribāhu (having three arms), paṣchabāhu (having five arms), vyāghravaktra (tiger-faced), sitānana (white faced), these as well many others, long faced ones, wide eyed ones, nṛtyantaḥ prahasantashcha sphoṭayantaḥ parasparam | tathānye ghorarūpāścha tathānye vikṛtānanāḥ ||3-86-5 dancing and laughing, clapping their hands, shouting at each other as also others having terrible forms and others with deformed faces, pretabhakṣāḥ pretavāhā māṁsaśoṇitabhojanāḥ | śavāni subahūnyāśu bhakṣayantastatastataḥ ||3-86-6 those eating dead bodies, carriers of dead bodies, flesh eaters and blood drinkers, many eating dead bodies here and there, pibanto rudhiraṁ ghoraṁ khaṇḍayantaḥ śavānbahūn | karālā vitatā dīrghā dhamanisnāyusaṁtatāḥ ||3-86-7 terrible beings drinking blood, many of them cutting dead bodies, dreadful beings with twisted nerves, veins and muscles, nānāvidhāḥ suvīrāścha śūlāgraprotamānuṣāḥ | śilāmālāvṛtāḥ kechidāntrapāśāvapāśitāḥ ||3-86-8 beings of many varieties, valiant, carrying men on spikes, covered with garlands of veins and others eating intestines and marrow ḍiṇḍimairaṭṭahāsaiścha nādayanto vasundharām | kapālino bhairavāścha jaṭilā muṇḍinastathā ||3-86-9 those playing drums (ḍiṇḍima), roaring and shaking the earth with their sounds, those carrying skulls, bhairava-s (frightful) also those with matted hair locks, those with shaven heads, evaṁ bahuvidhā ghorāḥ piśācā vikṛtānanāḥ | tathānye munivīrāścha dhyāyantaḥ parameshvaram ||3-86-10 terrible beings of many types, piśāca-s, those having deformed faces, other great sages, meditating on the superior lord shiva, paṭhanto devavākyāni sāṅgāni vividhāni ca | kuṇḍikāsthakarāḥ kechitkechitkuśavicāriṇaḥ ||3-86-11 studying the words of the lord along with many supplements, carrying water pots in their hands, others carrying kusha grass, kaupīnavasanāḥ kechitkechitkārpāsasaṁvṛtāḥ | stuvantaḥ śaṣkaraṁ bhaktyā stotrairmāheśvaraistathā ||3-86-12 others wearing loin clothes, some others wearing clothes of cotton, praising śaṅkara, the auspicious lord of prosperity with devotion, reciting hymns of the great lord. ekatra te munigaṇā aparatra gaṇāstathā | anyatra siddhagandharvāḥ priyābhiḥ saha saṅgatāḥ ||3-86-13 At one place there were groups of sages and other places there were groups of bhūta-s and some other places the siddha-s and gandharva-s were with their dear ones. nṛtyanti nṛtyakuśalā gāyanti sma ca kanyakāḥ | vidyādharāstathānyatra stuvantaḥ śaṅkaraṁ shivam ||3-86-14 The expert dancers were dancing, maidens were singing and vidyādhara-s were praising the auspicious lord of prosperity śaṅkara, shiva. nanṛtustasya purato gacchanto'psarasāṁ gaṇāḥ | evametairmahāghoraiḥ piśācairbhūtakinnaraiḥ ||3-86-15 In front of lord shiva, the groups of apsara-s were walking and dancing. There were highly terrible piśāca-s, bhūta-s and kinnaras. munibishcaiva pramathaiḥ samaṁ śarvaḥ samāyayau | yatra vishveshvaro viṣṇustapastepe sudāruṇam ||3-86-16 The lord who kills with arrows (sharva, shiva), accompanied with sages and tormentors, arrived at the place where the lord of the worlds, viṣṇu was performing a terrible penance. yatra te lokapālāścha tiṣṭhanti sma didṛkṣayā | umayā lokabhāvinyā gaṅgayā candraśekharaḥ ||3-86-17 The lord who wears the moon on the top of his head, along with goddesses gaṅga and umā, who are concerned with the welfare of the world, came to the place where the protectors of the world were there. sa sarvalokaprabhavo bhavo vibhu- rjaṭī ca sākṣātpraṇavātmakaḥ kṛtī | draṣṭuṁ hariṁ viṣṇumudāravikramo yayau yatheṣṭaṁ piśitāśanairvṛtaḥ ||3-86-18 bhava , the lord, the splendorous lord of the world, the lord having matted air locks, the lord with the true soul of praṇava, the creator, the generous valiant lord, shiva, surrounded by flesh eaters, arrived comfortably to see hari, viṣṇu (kṛṣṇa) (who was performing a terrible penance). iti śrīmahābhārate khileṣu harivaṁśe bhaviṣyaparvaṇi kailāsayātrāyāṁ mahādevāgamane ṣaḍaśītitamo'dhyāyaḥ This is the eighty-sixth chapter of bhaviṣyaparva, harivaṁśa, khila of mahabhārata, in kalāsayātra, shri shiva's arrival near kṛṣṇa
