Then king pauṇḍra, proud due to his power again spoke to nārada. bhavānsarvatra kuśalaḥ sarvakāryeṣu paṇḍitaḥ | prathito devasiddheṣu gandarveṣu mahātmasu ||3-92-5 (pauṇḍraka said): O sage! You go everywhere always without any obstacle. O the king among brahmins! There is no place in the universe where you can not go. nāradedaṁ vada tvaṁ hi yatra yatra gato bhavān | tatra tatra tapaḥsiddho loke prathitavīryavān ||3-92-7 O nārada, having the expertise in penance and famous as valiant in the world! Wherever you go, there you speak like this: pauṇḍra eva ca vikhyāto vāsudeveti śabditaḥ | śaṅkhī cakrī gadī śārṅgī khaḍgī tūṇī tanutravān | pauṇḍra is the one who is famous by the name vāsudeva. He is the one who holds the conch, cakra, mace, the bow śārṅga, sword and the quiver. vijetā rājasiṁhānāṁ dātā sarvasya sarvadā ||3-92-8 He is the one who conquers the lions among the kings and who gives all for all always. bhoktā rājyasya sarvasya śāstā rājā balādbalī | ajeyaḥ śatrusainyānāṁ rakṣitā svajanasya ca ||3-92-9 He is the one who enjoys the kingdoms. He is the king who governs all. He is the powerful with power. He can not be conquered by the army of enemies. He is the protector of his people. yo'dya gopakanāmāsau vāsudeveti śabditaḥ | tasya vīryabale na sto nāmno'sya mama dhārṇE ||3-92-10 Now there is one cowherd who has taken the name of vāsudeva, he does not have the valiance and power to take up my name. sa hi gopo vṛthā bālyāddhārayattyeva nāma me | That cowherd is taking up my name in vain due to childishness. idaṁ nishchinu viprendra eka eva bhavāmyahaṁ ||3-92-11 vāsudevo jagatyasminnirjitya balinaṁ yaduṁ | O the indra of brahmins! Get this firmly. I will become the only vāsudeva in the universe after conquering the powerful one belonging to the race of yadu. vṛṣṇīnsarvānbalātkṣiptvā nihaniṣye ca tāṁ purīṁ ||3-92-12 dvārakāṁ viṣṇunilayāṁ yoddhā cāhaṁ mahāmate | O the one with great intellect! I have thousands of elephants with mahouts. etenāhaṁ balenājau haniṣye keśavaṁ raṇe | tasmādevaṁ sadā vipra vada brahmanpure mama ||3-92-15 With this army, I will kill keshava in the battle. Hence, O Brahmin! Always tell this in the city of brahma as well as in my city. indrasyāpi sadā vipra vada nārada sāṁpratam | prārthanaiścha mama vibho namasye tvāṁ tapodhana ||3-92-16 O Brahmin! O king! I am the preceptor for all matters, even though I am a traveler. kiṁnu vaktuṁ tathā rājannutsahe nṛpasattama | mahīṁ śāsati deveshe cakrapāṇau janārdane ||3-92-18 O the best among kings! I will not endeavour to speak like that, as janārdana(*), the one who holds cakra, the lord of gods, govern the earth. viṣṇau sarvatrage deve duṣṭānhatvā sabāndhavān | vāsudeveti ko nāma tiṣṭhatyasminharāviti ||3-92-19 viṣṇu is the god who is everywhere, who, along with his kin, has killed all the wicked. The ignorant people may speak like this due to ignorance. hariḥ sarvatrago viṣṇurdarpaṁ te vyapaneṣyati | acintyavibhavo viṣṇuḥ śārṅgadhanvā gadādharaḥ ||3-92-21 hari, viṣṇu, who can go everywhere, will destroy your pride. viṣṇu, who holds the bow śārṅga and the mace, can not be conceived. ādidevaḥ purāṇātmā darpaṁ te vyapaneṣyati | hāsyametanmahārāja yaccha vai tatra saṁsthitaṁ ||3-92-22 The primal lord, the ancient soul, viṣṇu, will destroy your pride. O great king! This is definitely humour as it is with you. śārṅgaṁ khaḍgaṁ tathā rājanmahāghoraṁ na dāpyate | atīva hāsakālo'yaṁ tava saṁprati vartate ||3-92-23 O king! The bow and the sword (of viṣṇu) are highly terrible weapons, these can not be brought under your control. This is the time for high humour for you. iti śrīmahābhārate khileṣu harivaṁśe bhaviṣyaparvaṇi pauṇḍrakanāradasaṁvāde dvinavatitamo'dhyāyaḥ This is the ninety-second chapter of bhaviṣyaparva, harivaṁśa, khila of mahabhārata, pauṇḍraka-nārada conversation nīlakaṇṭha commentary · 3-92-1 tata iti || · 3-92-7 vada pauṇḍraka eva vāsudevaśabdita iti khyāpayetyarthaḥ || · 3-92-17 ācāyaḥ śaraṇākaraṇāyaḥ | pāṭhāntare gamane ācārya iti yojyam || · 3-92-19 ko nāma dhārayediti śeṣaḥ | · 3-92-20 gomatī sūryakiraṇasaṁparkavatī dve bhavana dyubhūnāmanī śāsati pālayāta idaṁ vaktuṁ ko nāma samarthaḥ syāt || na ko'pātyarthaḥ | prākṛtāstvādṛśāḥ mūḍhā || · 3-92-23 taccha śārṅgādhikaṁ tatra viṣṇau sthitaṁ na dāpyate tvadīyena śārṅgādinā na cchedyeta ityarthaḥ | dā plavane ityasya rūpam || iti śrīmahābharate khileṣu harivaṁśe viṣṇuparvaṇi ṭīkāyāṁ pauṇḍranāradasaṁvāde dvinavatitamo'dhyayaḥ ||
