Translation
When Vasudeva saw that Kaṁsa was determined to kill his sister Devakī, he thought to himself very deeply. Considering the imminent danger of death, he thought of another plan to stop Kaṁsa.

Failing in his attempt to pacify Kaṁsa, Vasudeva wondered how he would protect his wife, Devakī.
Purport
Although Vasudeva saw the imminent danger that his wife Devakī would be killed, he was convinced of his welfare because at his birth the demigods had played drums and kettledrums. He therefore attempted another way to save Devakī.

"At my birth the devatas sounded drums (dundubhi). Therefore nothing unfortunate can happen to me." With this certainly he thought of a way to avoid the immanent danger to Devaki.

Thinking (vicintya), he thought of another plan (idam anvapadyata). Knowing Kaṁsa was intent on killing her (nirbandham tam), considering with his intelligence, he thought of a way of cheating time or death (kālam). Tatra means immediately. Anvapadyata means “he determined in his mind a way.”
