श‍ृणुष्वावहितो राजन्नपि गुह्यं वदामि ते । ब्रूयु: स्‍निग्धस्य शिष्यस्य गुरवो गुह्यमप्युत ॥ ३ ॥

Verse text

śṛṇuṣvāvahito rājann api guhyaṁ vadāmi te brūyuḥ snigdhasya śiṣyasya guravo guhyam apy uta

Synonyms

śṛṇusva — please hear ; avahitaḥ — with great attention ; rājan — O King (Mahārāja Parīkṣit) ; api — although ; guhyam — very confidential (because ordinary men cannot understand the activities of Kṛṣṇa) ; vadāmi — I shall explain ; te — unto you ; brūyuḥ — explain ; snigdhasya — submissive ; śiṣyasya — of a disciple ; guravaḥ — spiritual masters ; guhyam — very confidential ; api uta — even so .

Translation

O King, kindly hear me with great attention. Although the activities of the Supreme Lord are very confidential, no ordinary man being able to understand them, I shall speak about them to you, for spiritual masters explain to a submissive disciple even subject matters that are very confidential and difficult to understand.

KB 10.13.3 It is the duty of the spiritual master to disclose all confidential subject matter to the inquisitive and sincere disciple. Thus Śukadeva Gosvāmī began to explain why the killing of Aghāsura was not discussed until one year had passed. Śukadeva Gosvāmī told the King, “Now hear of this secret with attention.

Be attentive, since what I will speak is very difficult to understand. O person shining with intelligence (rājan—means shining one, as well as king)! The word uta indicates his intention: I will speak about this. Many astonishing things which appear impossible concerning the Lord and Brahmā will be told, which are not easily understood by all. In this way the topic is secret (guhyam).
