Translation
As he traveled on the road, the great soul Akrūra felt tremendous devotion for the lotus-eyed Personality of Godhead, and thus he began to consider as follows.

Because Akrūra himself was a great devotee of the Lord, while going to Vṛndāvana he began to pray to the Lord. Devotees are always absorbed in thoughts of Kṛṣṇa, and Akrūra was constantly thinking of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s lotus eyes.

tam ratrim means the ekadasi night. Akrura is described as greatly intelligent because he spent the whole night awake in discussion of the Lord and worship of the Lord. Without breaking the fast, he departed in early morning for Vraja.

This verse describes Akrūra’s devotion (mahā-matiḥ) mentioned in the previous verse. He began thinking. His thoughts continue till verse 24. He began thinking “What type of good acts have I done so that even a person like me can see the Lord?” He thought in this way since he had the good fortune of getting Kṛṣṇa’s mercy (mahā-bhāgaḥ). His bhakti was the highest because it was his bhakti for the Lord who revealed his unlimited powers (bhagavati) and revealed his great sweetness such as his lotus eyes (ambujekṣaṇe). Akrūra had a realization of Kṛṣṇa in this form.

How did he travel? The description continues till verse 23. While travelling on the road, he thought as follows, because he was very fortunate (mahābhāgaḥ). He easily attained (upagatah) intense devotion to the Lord who displays his unlimited powers (bhagavati). He had natural bhakti, just as heat is natural to fire. He could attain the highest bhakti because the object was the most beautiful (ambujekṣaṇe). Or because he had great bhakti, which manifested at this time, he went now to Gokula.
