एवं स्त्रिया याच्यमान: कृष्णो रामस्य पश्यत: मुखं वीक्ष्यानु गोपानां प्रहसंस्तामुवाच ह ॥ ११ ॥

evaṁ striyā yācyamānaḥ kṛṣṇo rāmasya paśyataḥ mukhaṁ vīkṣyānu gopānāṁ prahasaṁs tām uvāca ha

Synonyms

evam — in this way ; striyā — by the woman ; yācya nānaḥ — being begged ; kṛṣṇaḥ — Lord Kṛṣṇa ; rāmasya — of Balarāma ; paśyataḥ — who was looking on ; mukham — at the face ; vīkṣya — glancing ; anu — then ; gopānām — of the cowherd boys ; prahasan — laughing ; tām — to her ; uvāca ha — He said .

Translation

Thus entreated by the woman, Lord Kṛṣṇa first glanced at the face of Balarāma, who was watching the incident, and then at the faces of the cowherd boys. Then with a laugh Kṛṣṇa replied to her as follows.

Thus entreated by the woman, Lord Kṛṣṇa first glanced at the face of Balarāma, who was watching the incident, and then at the faces of the cowherd boys. Then with a laugh Kṛṣṇa replied to her as follows. KB 10.42.11 Kṛṣṇa, of course, felt a little bit embarrassed in front of His elder brother, Balarāma, but He knew that the girl was simple and attracted; therefore He simply smiled at her words. Looking toward His cowherd boyfriends, He replied to the girl,

Looking at Balarama and the cowherd boys, Krsna said, "O elder brother, o friends! Are your faces not brimming with laughter? Then do not look upon this woman. Hasya rasa has come to join you, knowing that you are in a humorous mood." Or smiling, he could be saying "This woman of Mathura, expert in joking affairs, is now showing her nature."

Being entreated by the women full of desire while Balarāma and his friends watched, Kṛṣṇa looked at the faces of Balarāma and his friends and then laughed loudly in amusement. Hari-vaṁśa says tau jātaharṣāv anyonyaṁ satām ākṣepam avyayau / vīkṣamāṇau prahasitau kubjāyāḥ śruta-vistarau // Overjoyed, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, hearing the suggestive words of Kubjā, looked at each other and laughed loudly. He spoke to her clearly (ha) in such a way that Balarāma and others though he was cheating her, and she thought that he was keeping his promise.
