का त्वं वरोर्वेतदु हानुलेपनंकस्याङ्गने वा कथयस्व साधु न: देह्यावयोरङ्गविलेपमुत्तमंश्रेयस्ततस्ते न चिराद् भविष्यति ॥ २ ॥

kā tvaṁ varorv etad u hānulepanaṁ kasyāṅgane vā kathayasva sādhu naḥ dehy āvayor aṅga-vilepam uttamaṁ śreyas tatas te na cirād bhaviṣyati

Synonyms

kā — who ; tvam — you ; vara — ūru — O beautiful-thighed one ; etat — this ; u ha — ah, indeed ; anulepanam — ointment ; kasya — for whom ; aṅgane — My dear woman ; vā — or ; kathayasva — please tell ; sādhu — honestly ; naḥ — Us ; dehi — please give ; āvayoḥ — to Us two ; aṅga — vilepam — body ointment ; uttamam — excellent ; śreyaḥ — benefit ; tataḥ — thereafter ; te — your ; na cirāt — soon ; bhaviṣyati — will be .

Translation

[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Who are you, O beautiful-thighed one? Ah, ointment! Who is it for, my dear lady? Please tell Us truthfully. Give Us both some of your finest ointment and you will soon gain a great boon.

[Lord Kṛṣṇa said:] Who are you, O beautiful-thighed one? Ah, ointment! Who is it for, my dear lady? Please tell Us truthfully. Give Us both some of your finest ointment and you will soon gain a great boon. KB 10.42.2 “O tall young woman, who are you? Tell Me, for whom are you carrying this sandalwood pulp in your hand? I think you should offer this sandalwood to Me, and if you do so I am sure you will be fortunate.” Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and He knew everything about the hunchback. By His inquiry He indicated that there was no use in serving a demon; she would do better to serve Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma and get an immediate result of the service.

The Lord jokingly addressed the lady as varoru, “O beautiful-thighed one.” His joke was not malicious, since He was actually about to make her beautiful.

Krsna addressed Kubja as a beautiful women, in a joking mood with his own internal motives. "Who are you? For whom are you taking the ointments?"

Tell us truthfully, or tell us properly since out of shyness she did not speak clearly. Or tell us if that ointment is suitable for our limbs. Hari-vaṁśa says tām uvāca hasantīṁ tu kṛṣṇaḥ kubjām avasthitām ubhayor gātra sadṛśaṁ dīyatām anulepanam: Kṛṣṇa said to smiling Kubjā, “You should give that ointment suitable for our limbs.” Vayam videśātithayo mallāḥ prāptā varānane dhanur-mahaṁ divyaṁ drāṣṭruṁ caiva maharddhimat: we two wrestlers from a different place have come to see the great sacrifice of the bow and the prosperous city. Kṛṣṇa addresses her twice (varoru and aṅgane) as a joke. Not only are your thighs beautiful (varoruḥ) but all your limbs are beautiful (aṅgane). You have all good qualities. Because of one fault you appear to have many faults.

Tell us truthfully (sadhu) for whose use is this unguent made from sandalwood. Or tell us about this excellent (sadhu) ointment. It is suitable for our limbs. Hari-vaṁśa says tām uvāca hasantīṁ tu kṛṣṇaḥ kubjām avasthitām ubhayor gātra sadṛśaṁ dīyatām anulepanam: Kṛṣṇa said to smiling Kubjā, “You should give that ointment suitable for our limbs.” Vayam videśātithayo mallāḥ prāptā varānane dhanur-mahaṁ divyaṁ drāṣṭruṁ caiva maharddhimat: we two wrestlers from a different place have come to see the great sacrifice of the bow and the prosperous city.
