Translation
When Lord Kṛṣṇa reached the entrance to the arena, He saw the elephant Kuvalayāpīḍa blocking His way at the urging of his keeper.

When Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma reached the gate of the wrestling arena, They saw a big elephant of the name Kuvalayāpīḍa being tended by a caretaker riding on its head. The caretaker was deliberately blocking Their entrance by keeping the elephant in front of the gateway.

The elephant-keeper revealed his malicious intent by blocking Lord Kṛṣṇa’s entrance into the arena.

Coming near the entrance, he saw the elephant standing there alertly, goaded by the keeper on his shoulder to kill Kṛṣṇa. He approached the elephant to kill it with care, while being attractive to all hearts (kṛṣṇaḥ).
