Translation
Grabbing Kaṁsa by the hair and knocking off his crown, the lotus-naveled Lord threw him off the elevated dais onto the wrestling mat. Then the independent Lord, the support of the entire universe, threw Himself upon the King.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is the shelter of the complete creation and from whose lotus navel the whole creation is manifested, immediately knocked the crown from the head of Kaṁsa and grabbed his long hair in His hand. He then dragged Kaṁsa from his seat to the wrestling dais and threw him down. Then Kṛṣṇa at once straddled his chest and began to strike him over and over again. Simply from the strokes of Kṛṣṇa's fist, Kaṁsa lost his vital force.

Śrīla Prabhupāda describes the death of Kaṁsa as follows: “Kṛṣṇa at once straddled his chest and began to strike him over and over again. Simply from the strokes of His fist, Kaṁsa lost his vital force.”

Krsna threw himself upon the fallen Kamsa, so that his body would not be injured by hitting the ground. Krsna wanting to kill Kamsa, at that moment thought of himself as the shelter of the universe, which was burdened by Kamsa (visvasraya).

This verse shows how he caught Kaṁsa. He held him firmly by his hair. “How could he suddenly catch him by the hair since his hair was bound by a crown?” His crown fell off when he moved his head violently, as Kṛṣṇa attempted to grab his head. Viṣṇu Purāṇa says keśeṣvākṛṣya vigalat kirīṭam: when Kṛṣṇa grabbed Kaṁsa’s hair, Kaṁsa’s crown fell off. Hari-vaṁśa says:
mukuṭaś cāpata tasya kāñcano vajra-bhūṣitaḥ
śirasas tasya kṛṣṇena parāmṛṣṭasya pāṇinā
When Kṛṣṇa grabbed him with his hand, the crown made of gold and ornamented with diamonds fell off his head.
Kṛṣṇa was independent because he was the shelter of the universe. The universe is within the lotus of the navel (abja-nābhaḥ) of Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu, who is but an expansion of Kṛṣṇa.
