Translation
When we see the places where Mukunda enjoyed His sporting pastimes — the rivers, hills and forests He decorated with His feet — our minds become totally absorbed in Him.
Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
When we see the places where Mukunda enjoyed His sporting pastimes—the rivers, hills and forests He decorated with His feet—our minds become totally absorbed in Him.
KB 10.46.22
“When we go to the banks of the Yamunā or the lakes of Vṛndāvana or near Govardhana Hill or the pasturing fields, we see that the impressions of Kṛṣṇa’s footprints are still on the surface of the earth. We remember Him playing in those places, because He was constantly visiting them. When His appearance within our minds becomes manifest, we immediately become absorbed in thought of Him.
Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
"If this is the case, then I can understand that you are staying in the house and remembering Krsna too much. Therefore to give up dwelling on him so much, you should herd the cows and walk on the bank of the Yamuna."
Fearing such a remark, Nanda said, "On seeing the river, the forest and other places (uddesah) where Krsna performed pastimes, our conscious becomes more absorbed in Krsna. We think more of Krsna (tad atmatam), and the pain of separation increases."
Purport (Jiva Goswami)
“You should give up just staying at home and remembering Kṛṣṇa. Instead, herd the cows and wander on the bank of the Yamunā.” Nanda answers with this verse. Doing such actions will offer no solution to our problems. We see places in the forests, mountains and river banks decorated with the foot prints of Kṛṣṇa who freed me from the python and Varuṇa (mukunda), since even today those prints are preserved by the lap of the earth deity out of affection. And we see the signs of his playing. All living entities see them, what to speak of us. When we see them we become absorbed in him, actually seeing his sphūrti. What are we to do?
Purport (Sanatana Goswami)
“You should give up remembering his activities.” When we see rivers like Yamunā, hills like Govardhana or forested areas like Kāmyavana, ornamented with the footmarks of he who gives the highest bliss (mukunda), my son, because he played there, our minds cannot give up thinking of him. Another version has govinda. As king of Gokula, he is the object of devotion of all people of Vraja. The footprints remained for a long time without disappearing.
sva-mūrtyā loka-lāvaṇya- nirmuktyā locanaṁ nṛṇām
gīrbhis tāḥ smaratāṁ cittaṁ padais tān īkṣatāṁ kriyāḥ
I have stolen people’s eyes with my form which makes them reject all other beauty, stolen their voices and ears by my words, stolen their minds and stolen their movements of their bodies by the markings on my footprints. SB 11.1.6
Or seeing the various places of pastimes (ākrīḍān) decorated with his footprints, with a display of various types of beauty, our minds become filled with Mukunda.
