कलेवरेऽस्मिन् घटकुड्यसन्निभे निरूढमानो नरदेव इत्यहम् । वृतो रथेभाश्वपदात्यनीकपै- र्गां पर्यटंस्त्वागणयन् सुदुर्मद: ॥ ४८ ॥

kalevare ’smin ghaṭa-kuḍya-sannibhe nirūḍha-māno nara-deva ity aham vṛto rathebhāśva-padāty-anīkapair gāṁ paryaṭaṁs tvāgaṇayan su-durmadaḥ

Synonyms

kalevare — in the body ; asmin — this ; ghaṭa — a pot ; kuḍya — or a wall ; sannibhe — which is like ; nirūḍha — exaggerated ; mānaḥ — whose false identification ; nara — devaḥ — a god among men (king) ; iti — thus (thinking myself) ; aham — I ; vṛtaḥ — surrounded ; ratha — by chariots ; ibha — elephants ; aśva — horses ; padāti — infantry ; anīkapaiḥ — and generals ; gām — the earth ; paryaṭan — traveling ; tvā — You ; agaṇayan — not regarding seriously ; su — durmadaḥ — very much deluded by pride .

Translation

With deep arrogance I took myself to be the body, which is a material object like a pot or a wall. Thinking myself a god among men, I traveled the earth surrounded by my charioteers, elephants, cavalry, foot soldiers and generals, disregarding You in my deluding pride.

KB 10.51.48 “As my misconception of life intensified, I began to think of this material body, which is just a bag of flesh and bones, as the all in all, and in my vanity I believed I had become the king of human society. In this misconception of bodily life I traveled all over the world, accompanied by my military strength—soldiers, charioteers, elephants and horses. Assisted by many commanders and puffed up by power, I could not trace out Your Lordship, who always sit within my heart as the most intimate friend. I did not care for You, and this was the fault of my so-called exalted material condition.

I identified with this body which is like a pot or wall (kudya). Because I was so attached to material things, I wasted all my time. This verse is a continuation from the previous verse.

I took myself to be the body, though it is full of faults. I did not respect you (agaṇayan), since I forgot about you.

In this body, experienced by everyone as an unconscious object like a pot, or in this body, the shelter of all faults, surrounded by chariots, four parts of the army and generals, I wandered about everywhere on the earth. The later items in the list are closer to the king. I did not respect you (aganayan), since I forgot, being distracted.
