Translation
A lion killed Prasena and his horse and took the jewel. But when the lion entered a mountain cave he was killed by Jāmbavān, who wanted the jewel.

A lion killed Prasena and his horse and took the jewel. But when the lion entered a mountain cave he was killed by Jāmbavān, who wanted the jewel.

… a big lion attacked him, killed both him and the horse on which he was riding, and took away the jewel to his cave. News of this was received by the gorilla king, Jāmbavān, who then killed that lion in the cave and took away the jewel.

Killing Prasena, the lion took (acchidya) the jewel.

The lion killed Prasena because violence was its nature. It took the jewel because it was most valuable. Such actions of collecting curious items are seen in mice and other animals.

The lion killed Prasena because it was very strong and amazing. Jambavān killed the lion, tearing him apart with his nails (nihataḥ).
