Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

After Lord Śauri had entered the cave, the people of Dvārakā who had accompanied Him had waited twelve days without seeing Him come out again. Finally they had given up and returned to their city in great sorrow. KB 10.56.33 The episode of Jāmbavatī’s marriage with Lord Kṛṣṇa and the delivery of the jewel known as Syamantaka was finished within the mountain cave. Although the fighting between Kṛṣṇa and Jāmbavān went on for twenty-eight days, the inhabitants of Dvārakā waited outside the tunnel for twelve days, and after that they decided that something undesirable must have happened. They could not understand for certain what had actually happened, and being very sorry and tired they returned to the city of Dvārakā.

Purport (Jiva Goswami)

Thinking of Vasudeva and others, the people thought it was not proper to stay longer. Those close to Satrājit returned to the city. Though the inhabitants of Dvārakā were grieved, because they were not intimately associated with Kṛṣṇa they returned to his city rather than stay at the cave he had entered.
