Translation
Vindya and Anuvindya, who shared the throne of Avantī, were followers of Duryodhana’s. When the time came for their sister [Mitravindā] to select her husband in the svayaṁvara ceremony, they forbade her to choose Kṛṣṇa, although she was attracted to Him.

The kings of Avantīpura (now known as Ujjain) were named Vindya and Anuvindya. Both kings were under the control of Duryodhana. They had one sister, named Mitravindā, who was a very qualified, learned and elegant girl, the daughter of one of Kṛṣṇa’s aunts. She was to select her husband in an assembly of princes, but she strongly desired to have Kṛṣṇa as her husband.

The feelings of enmity between the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas were so strong that Mitravindā’s brothers, out of friendship for Duryodhana, forbade the young maiden to accept Kṛṣṇa as her husband.

Though it was a matter of choice (svyaṁvare), the brothers prevented their sister who was attracted to Kṛṣṇa from marrying him. Or she was attracted to Kṛṣṇa, who stole her (svayaṁvare). Or the brothers forbade her to choose by herself (svayaṁ vare). They were followers of Duryodhana. They followed his desire. Kṛṣṇa stole her though she was the daughter of his aunt because his heart was attracted by the prema of his dear devotee (kṛṣṇe).
