tān asyataḥ śara-vrātān bandhu-priya-kṛd arjunaḥ gāṇḍīvī kālayām āsa siṁhaḥ kṣudra-mṛgān iva

Translation

Arjuna, wielder of the Gāṇḍīva bow, was always eager to please his friend Kṛṣṇa, and thus he drove back those opponents, who were shooting torrents of arrows at the Lord. He did this just as a lion drives away insignificant animals.

Arjuna, wielder of the Gāṇḍīva bow, was always eager to please his friend Kṛṣṇa, and thus he drove back those opponents, who were shooting torrents of arrows at the Lord. He did this just as a lion drives away insignificant animals. KB 10.58.54 … began to shower their arrows on the bridal party. When they attacked Kṛṣṇa’s party and shot arrows like incessant torrents of rain, Arjuna, the best friend of Kṛṣṇa, took charge of the challenge, and he alone very easily drove them off to please his great friend Kṛṣṇa on the occasion of His marriage. Arjuna immediately took up his bow, Gāṇḍīva, and chased away all the princes; exactly as a lion drives away all small animals simply by chasing them, Arjuna drove away all the princes, without killing even one of them.

Arjuna drove them away easily. Arjuna was in the procession in order to see the wedding, since he had come to Dvārakā out of great affection for Kṛṣṇa, or because of being secretly summoned.

Arjuna drove them away easily because he had the Gāṇḍīva bow. Why did he do this? He did it to please his friend. Arjuna came there because he heard of the attempts of evil kings to obstruct Kṛṣṇa on the road.
