Translation
Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: My dear King, while Nanda Mahārāja was on the way home, he considered that what Vasudeva had said could not be false or useless. There must have been some danger of disturbances in Gokula. As Nanda Mahārāja thought about the danger for his beautiful son, Kṛṣṇa, he was afraid, and he took shelter at the lotus feet of the supreme controller.

Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: My dear King, while Nanda Mahārāja was on the way home, he considered that what Vasudeva had said could not be false or useless. There must have been some danger of disturbances in Gokula. As Nanda Mahārāja thought about the danger for his beautiful son, Kṛṣṇa, he was afraid, and he took shelter at the lotus feet of the supreme controller.

While Nanda Mahārāja was returning home, he considered Vasudeva’s warning that there might be some disturbance in Gokula. Certainly the advice was friendly and not false. So Nanda thought, “There is some truth in it.” Therefore, out of fear he took shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It is quite natural for a devotee in danger to think of Kṛṣṇa, because he has no other shelter. When a child is in danger, he takes shelter of his mother or father. Similarly, a devotee is always under the shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but when he specifically sees some danger, he remembers the Lord very rapidly.
Purport
Whenever there is danger, the pure devotee thinks of the protection and shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is also advised in
Bhagavad-gītā
(9.33)
:
anityam asukhaṁ lokam imaṁ prāpya bhajasva mām.
In this material world there is danger at every step (
padaṁ padaṁ yad vipadām
). Therefore a devotee has no other recourse than to take shelter of the Lord at every step.

In the sixth chapter Putana assumes a beautiful form and appears in Vraja. Upon dying, she assumes her raksasi form. She attains liberation by Krsna’s mercy. Her body is burned and Nanda approaches.

He surrendered in his mind to Hari, he who destroys all fears, since Viṣṇu was his family deity, for the auspiciousness of his son. Or, because the information could not be false, on the way back he especially thought of his son, most attractive (harim). Thinking, “I do not know what news is there” he returned to his house (śaraṇam).

On the road, thinking, he surrendered in his mind to Hari, he who destroys all fears. O Lord! Please protect my son, he said in pain. Or he prayed in his heart, since he was affectionate to Kṛṣṇa at all times, constantly thinking of him. Though he was always absorbed in Kṛṣṇa, now particularly he surrendered to the Lord because of the danger, since he was the best of devotees. The devotees will surrender to the Lord and not do anything else to destroy dangers. Actually he did so out of great affection for Kṛṣṇa.
Or on the path he thought of his son, who was attractive (harim) because Vasudeva’s words could not be false. “I do not know what has happened there.” Thus he went to his house (śaraṇam).
