SB 10.6.25

Bhagavān paraḥ means Svayam Bhagavān. The subtle meaning here is that the expansions should protect Kṛṣṇa’s limbs since the expansions are the limbs in his possession and Svayam Bhagavān should protect himself (ātmānam) since he is the possessor of the limbs. The avatāras protecting his limbs are his āvaraṇa deities or protective forms surrounding him. Names are then mentioned in relation to Kṛṣṇa’s activities. Govinda means “he who plays among the cows.” The gopīs perceive different suitable forms in relation to the activities of Kṛṣṇa. Mādhava refers to the Lord sleeping on Śeṣa, while Lakṣmī massages his feet. He should protect Kṛṣṇa’s lying down and sleeping. Vaikuṇṭha is the avatāra who was the son of Vikuṇṭha, who came out of the palace using his feet to solve the quarrel between the Kumāras and Jaya and Vijaya. He should protect Kṛṣṇa’s walking. The husband of Lakṣmī refers to Mahā-nārāyaṇa who sits on a huge throne in Vaikuṇṭha. He should protect Kṛṣṇa’s sitting. The enjoyer of sacrifices should protect his enjoyment. The phrase “giving fear to all planets” should modify all the different forms of the Lord mentioned. All the deities mentioned protect Kṛṣṇa from the bad influence of planets while he performs all his activities.
