तत् सूर्यकोटिप्रतिमं सुदर्शनं जाज्वल्यमानं प्रलयानलप्रभम् । स्वतेजसा खं ककुभोऽथ रोदसी चक्रं मुकुन्दास्‍त्रमथाग्निमार्दयत् ॥ ३९ ॥

tat sūrya-koṭi-pratimaṁ sudarśanaṁ jājvalyamānaṁ pralayānala-prabham sva-tejasā khaṁ kakubho ’tha rodasī cakraṁ mukundāstraṁ athāgnim ārdayat

Synonyms

tat — that ; sūrya — of suns ; koṭi — millions ; pratimam — resembling ; sudarśanam — Sudarśana ; jājvalyamānam — blazing with fire ; pralaya — of universal annihilation ; anala — (like) the fire ; prabham — whose effulgence ; sva — his own ; tejasā — with heat ; kham — the sky ; kakubhaḥ — the directions ; atha — and ; rodasī — heaven and earth ; cakram — the disc ; mukunda — of Lord Kṛṣṇa ; astram — the weapon ; atha — also ; agnim — the fire (created by Sudakṣiṇa) ; ārdayat — tormented .

Translation

That Sudarśana, the disc weapon of Lord Mukunda, blazed forth like millions of suns. His effulgence blazed like the fire of universal annihilation, and with his heat he pained the sky, all the directions, heaven and earth, and also the fiery demon.

That Sudarśana, the disc weapon of Lord Mukunda, blazed forth like millions of suns. His effulgence blazed like the fire of universal annihilation, and with his heat he pained the sky, all the directions, heaven and earth, and also the fiery demon. KB 10.66.39 The Sudarśana cakra appeared with the effulgence of millions of suns, his heat being as powerful as the fire created at the end of the cosmic manifestation. By his effulgence the Sudarśana cakra illuminated the entire universe, on the surface of the earth as well as in outer space. Then the Sudarśana cakra began to freeze the fiery demon created by Lord Śiva.

Spreading in the heavens and earth, the sudarsana cakra afflicted the fire demon (agnim).

After getting the order, the cakra afflicted the fire demon. Though the cakra was sharp and hot, it was seen as pleasant to look at by the devotees (sudarśanam). Still the Lord was willing to give such persons liberation (mukundasya).

After getting the order (atha), the cakra afflicted the fire demon because it was the weapon of the Lord, who gives joy to his devotees such as Śiva (mukunda). Thus it is shown as more powerful than just capable of burning the fire demon. It blazed like million suns. Though the cakra was sharp and hot, it was seen as pleasant to look at by the devotees (sudarśanam). With his extraordinary (sva) heat (tejasā) the cakra burned even heaven and earth (rodasī).
