एवं देशान् विप्रकुर्वन् दूषयंश्च कुलस्‍त्रिय: । श्रुत्वा सुललितं गीतं गिरिं रैवतकं ययौ ॥ ८ ॥

Verse text

evaṁ deśān viprakurvan dūṣayaṁś ca kula-striyaḥ śrutvā su-lalitaṁ gītaṁ giriṁ raivatakaṁ yayau

Synonyms

evam — thus ; deśān — the various kingdoms ; viprakurvan — disturbing ; dūṣayan — contaminating ; ca — and ; kula — of respectable families ; striyaḥ — the women ; śrutvā — hearing ; su — lalitam — very sweet ; gītam — song ; girim — to the mountain ; raivatakam — named Raivataka ; yayau — he went .

Translation

Once, while Dvivida was thus engaged in harassing the neighboring kingdoms and polluting women of respectable families, he heard very sweet singing coming from Raivataka Mountain. So he went there.

Once, while Dvivida was thus engaged in harassing the neighboring kingdoms and polluting women of respectable families, he heard very sweet singing coming from Raivataka Mountain. So he went there. KB 10.67.8 Thus Dvivida regularly defied the law and order of the country. Not only that, but he would sometimes pollute the female members of many aristocratic families by forcibly raping them. While creating such great disturbances all over the country, sometimes he heard very sweet musical sounds from Raivataka Mountain, and so he entered that mountainous region.

He ravaged the places, doing more and more atrocious acts. Viṣṇu purāṇa says: kāma-rūpī mahā-rūpam kṛtvā sasyāny aśeṣataḥ luṭhan bhramaṇa-sammardaiḥ sañcūrṇayati vānarah Dvivida, taking a huge form at will, looted and destroyed all the crops by going around and smashing them.
