यजन्तं सकलान् देवान् क्व‍ापि क्रतुभिरूर्जितै: । पूर्तयन्तं क्व‍‍चिद् धर्मं कूर्पाराममठादिभि: ॥ ३४ ॥

Verse text

yajantaṁ sakalān devān kvāpi kratubhir ūrjitaiḥ pūrtayantaṁ kvacid dharmaṁ kūrpārāma-maṭhādibhiḥ

Synonyms

yajantam — worshiping ; sakalān — all ; devān — the demigods ; kva api — somewhere ; kratubhiḥ — with sacrifices ; ūrjitaiḥ — full-blown ; pūrtayantam — fulfilling by civil service ; kvacit — somewhere ; dharmam — religious obligation ; kūrpa — with wells ; ārāma — public parks ; maṭha — monasteries ; ādibhiḥ — and so on .

Translation

Somewhere He was worshiping all the demigods with elaborate sacrifices, and elsewhere He was fulfilling His religious obligations by doing public welfare work, such as the construction of wells, public parks and monasteries.

Somewhere He was worshiping all the demigods with elaborate sacrifices, and elsewhere He was fulfilling His religious obligations by doing public welfare work, such as the construction of wells, public parks and monasteries. KB 10.69.34 Somewhere the Lord was seen performing different types of sacrifices to satisfy the demigods, who are only His qualitative expansions. Somewhere He was seen engaged in public welfare activities, establishing deep wells for the water supply, rest houses and gardens for unknown guests, and great monasteries and temples for saintly persons. These are some of the duties enjoined in the Vedas for householders for fulfillment of their material desires.

Sometimes, during Caitra and other auspicious months, during caturmasya or other holy days, Krsna would worship the devas. At other times such as celebration of the beginning of the yuga (yugadi = askaya tritiya????), he would be digging wells.

He worshipped his expansions, the devatās, in deity form and he worshipped the Vaiṣṇavas directly (sakalān devān) by elaborate sacrifices and worship. He performed actions of pūrti (piety). Instead of mathādibhiḥ sometimes ālayādibhiḥ (temples) is seen.

Purport (Sanatana Goswami)

He worship the devatās who were his vibhūtis (sakalān). Or he worshipped devatās even though they were his expansion, or he worshipped his Viṣṇu forms (devān) though they were his expansions (sakalān), by great sacrifices. He executed public works as part of dharma by making wells, parks and temples. Ādibhiḥ indicates ponds and lakes. The list is in order of increasing excellence.
