सन्तन्वन्त: प्रजातन्तून् सुखं दु:खं भवाभवौ । प्राप्तं प्राप्तं च सेवन्तो मच्चित्ता विचरिष्यथ ॥ २२ ॥

santanvantaḥ prajā-tantūn sukhaṁ duḥkhaṁ bhavābhavau prāptaṁ prāptaṁ ca sevanto mac-cittā vicariṣyatha

Synonyms

santanvantaḥ generating ; prajā of progeny ; tantūn lines ; sukham happiness ; duḥkham distress ; bhava birth ; abhavau and death ; prāptam prāptam as they are encountered ; ca and ; sevantaḥ accepting ; mat cittāḥ — with minds fixed on Me ; vicariṣyatha you should go about .

Translation

As you live your lives, begetting generations of progeny and encountering happiness and distress, birth and death, always keep your minds fixed on Me.

Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

You should spend your time, producing offspring (prajatantun), serving birth and death (bhava abhava), happiness and distress, which are met with (praptam). Praptam is not in the dual form because of abundance of terms only one form remains (eka sesa).

Increasing generations of population nicely, experiencing happiness and distress with wealth or poverty, being equal in all these conditions, with your mind fixed on me, perform the conduct of a householder (vicarisyatha).
