Translation
The Supreme Lord approached the gopīs in a secluded place as they stood in their ecstatic trance. After embracing each of them and inquiring about their well-being, He laughed and spoke as follows.

Kṛṣṇa was sitting with Mother Yaśodā and His other mothers, Devakī and Rohiṇī, but when the mothers engaged in talking, He took the opportunity and went to a secluded place to meet the gopīs. As soon as He approached the gopīs, the Lord smiled, and after embracing them and inquiring about their welfare, He began to encourage them, saying,

Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī comments that Kṛṣṇa expanded Himself by His
vibhūti-śakti
to embrace each of the
gopīs
individually, thus waking each of them from her trance. He inquired, “Are you now relieved of your pain of separation?” and laughed to help lighten their spirits.

Then Krsna, getting up from Yasoda’s lap, went to a more private place, and talked and mingled freely with the gopis. He met with the gopis who were in a state of bliss described in the previous verse.(tatha bhutah). By his vibhuti sakti he embraced all of them tightly, so tightly that they woke from their ecstastic trance. He asked them about their welfare: "Has your great sickness and pain due to separation from me now gone or not?" He laughed, in order to make them laugh, and then spoke.

Then in order to appease them he brought them to a special room. His personal consolation is described. Knowing everything (bhagavān), he closely associated with (upa—saṅgataḥ) the gopīs (tāḥ) who had attained an intolerable state of separation from him, at night in a private place (vivikte). He simultaneously, by his special powers, embraced each gopī in order to bring them out of a fainting condition which they entered out of intense prema. He consoled them as they were constantly weeping and fainting. Seeing that they quickly recovered, he asked about their health (anamayam). Previously he had taught them a method of getting relief from separation through Uddhava. That method should not produce this effect. He asked about their general health in order to hide his own offense of not coming before this time. After some time passed in pleasant talk, he started to smile (pra—hasan) to reduce their lamentation and then spoke some most astonishing words (idam).

Knowing everything or an ocean of good qualities (bhagavān), he closely associated with (upa—saṅgataḥ) the gopīs (tāḥ) who had attained an intolerable state of separation from him, at night, on that day or another day, in a private place (vivikte). He asked if they were without sickness (anāmayam). He did not ask about the grief in their minds since it was obvious. Or he asked about their health since they were thin. He was worried that they may have sickness. He smiled to relieve them of sorrow. Or he did not smile (aprahasan) since he became depressed on seeing their sorry condition, though usually he had a smiling face. He spoke some most astonishing words (idam).
