तयो: समानीय वरासनं मुदा निविष्टयोस्तत्र महात्मनोस्तयो: । दधार पादाववनिज्य तज्जलं सवृन्द आब्रह्म पुनद् यदम्बु ह ॥ ३६ ॥

tayoḥ samānīya varāsanaṁ mudā niviṣṭayos tatra mahātmanos tayoḥ dadhāra pādāv avanijya taj jalaṁ sa-vṛnda ā-brahma punad yad ambu ha

Synonyms

tayoḥ — for Them ; samānīya — bringing ; vara — elevated ; āsanam — seats ; mudā — happily ; niviṣṭayoḥ — who took Their seats ; tatra — there ; mahā — ātmanoḥ — of the greatest of personalities ; tayoḥ — of Them ; dadhāra — he took ; pādau — the feet ; avanijya — washing ; tat — that ; jalam — water ; sa — together with ; vṛndaḥ — his followers ; ā — brahma — up to Lord Brahmā ; punat — purifying ; yat — which ; ambu — water ; ha — indeed .

Translation

Bali took pleasure in offering Them elevated seats. After They sat down, he washed the feet of the two Supreme Personalities. Then he took that water, which purifies the whole world even up to Lord Brahmā, and poured it upon himself and his followers.

Bali took pleasure in offering Them elevated seats. After They sat down, he washed the feet of the two Supreme Personalities. Then he took that water, which purifies the whole world even up to Lord Brahmā, and poured it upon himself and his followers. KB 10.85.36 Bali Mahārāja offered Lord Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma the best seat he had in his possession, and when both Lords were seated comfortably, he began to wash Their lotus feet. He then sprinkled the water on his head and on the heads of his family members. The water used to wash the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma can purify even the greatest demigods, such as Lord Brahmā.

With his followers Bali put the water on his head, which purifies everything up to Lord Brahma.

With joy, bowing his head, he offered (sam—ānīya) them one excellent seat, seeing them as one out of affection. Tayoḥ is repeated out of great bhakti. Some versions have tadā instead of tayoḥ. When they were seated and were satisfied with it, he washed their feet and placed the water on his head. Instead of dadhāra sometimes babhāra is seen.

Joyful, he brought them in, and had them seated in joy in separate seats. Tayoḥ is repeated to indicate the separate seats. He took all the water from washing the feet on his and his associates’ heads, the highest limb of the body because they were the supreme Lords (mahātmanaḥ).
