gītaṁ surair nṛbhir agāc chanakair videhān

Translation
Simply by glancing at those who came to see Him, Lord Kṛṣṇa, the spiritual master of the three worlds, delivered them from the blindness of materialism. As He thus endowed them with fearlessness and divine vision, He heard demigods and men singing His glories, which purify the entire universe and destroy all misfortune. Gradually, He reached Videha.

Simply by glancing at those who came to see Him, Lord Kṛṣṇa, the spiritual master of the three worlds, delivered them from the blindness of materialism. When they saw Kṛṣṇa, all the ignorant misconceptions of their lives dissipated. When the Lord passed through the various countries and the people came to visit Him, simply by glancing over them the Lord would bestow all good fortune upon them and liberate them from all kinds of ignorance. In some places the demigods would join with the human beings, and their glorification of the Lord would cleanse all directions of all inauspicious things. In this way, Lord Kṛṣṇa gradually reached the kingdom of Videha.
Purport
Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī raises the logical question of how the ordinary people along the path could even see the Lord, since not only were their eyes covered by ignorance, but the Lord’s chariot was traveling faster than the wind. Supplying the answer, Śrīla Jīva indicates that Lord Kṛṣṇa’s special glance of mercy empowered every one of them with the devotional purity required for entering into His association. Otherwise, He would have remained outside the scope of their power to see, as He Himself states in His instructions to Uddhava:
bhaktyāham ekayā grāhyaḥ.
“I can be perceived only by devotion.” (
Bhāg.
11.14.21
) By the grammatical rule of compound formation known as
eka-śeṣa,
the term
sta-vīkṣaṇa-vinaṣṭa-tamisra-dṛgbhyaḥ,
although in its primary sense inflected as a masculine noun, may be understood in this context as referring to both men and women.
Purport (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
How could they relish the sweetness of the Lord’s form? It was by his glance. This is explained in this verse. He destroyed the ignorance in their eyes by his merciful glance, and bestowed upon them realization of the supreme object (artha drsam) and devotion to himself, the only means of realizing his sweetness (ksemam). As he himself says, "I am only attainable by bhakti." (Bhakyaham ekaya grahyah) sb 11.14.21.

“How could they see the form of parabrahman with eyes covered by ignorance? How could they follow the chariot which went as fast as the wind?” The ignorance in their eyes (men and women’ eyes) was destroyed by his glance. He gave them fearlessness and vision. Their eyes were endowed with the prakāśaka-śakti (his energy which causes revelation) arising from the Lord’s svarūpa, in the form of bhakti. Bhaktyāham ekayā grāhyaḥ: I am only obtainable by bhakti. (SB 11.14.21) By the manifestation of those eyes they could see Kṛṣṇa. Thus he is called guru of the three worlds, since he initiated them with bhakti. Hearing his glories which purify the ends of the directions sung by the devatās in the sky, and by humans on earth, delayed because of meeting all these people, he came to Videha.

He gave to the men and women (tebhyaḥ), whose eye disease or whose uselessness (tamisra) was destroyed by his glance, fearlessness of saṁsāra (kṣemam) and eyes (artha-dṛśam) since he gave special vaidha-dīkṣa as the best guru in the three worlds. He heard his fame which purifies all directions, because it destroys all inauspiciousness—sung by men on earth and devatās in the sky. He went slowly, giving gifts to please the people.
Or the people had the illusion or darkness (tamisra) covering their eyes destroyed completely by his glance alone. He gave auspiciousness for this and next life, for which purpose he gave knowledge of bhakti, the highest goal (artha-dṛśam).
