यदि न: श्रवणायालं युष्मद्‌व्यवसितं विभो । भण्यतां प्रायश: पुम्भिर्धृतै: स्वार्थान् समीहते ॥ ३० ॥

yadi naḥ śravaṇāyālaṁ yuṣmad-vyavasitaṁ vibho bhaṇyatāṁ prāyaśaḥ pumbhir dhṛtaiḥ svārthān samīhate

Translation

O mighty one, please tell Us what you intend to do, if We are qualified to hear it. Usually one accomplishes his purposes by taking help from others.

O mighty one, please tell Us what you intend to do, if We are qualified to hear it. Usually one accomplishes his purposes by taking help from others. KB 10.88.30 Then, just to pacify the demon, the brahmacārī told him, “My dear lord, if you think that you can disclose the mission for which you have taken the trouble to come here, maybe I shall be able to help you so that your purpose will be easily served.” Indirectly, the Lord informed him that because the Lord is the Supreme Brahman, He would certainly be able to adjust the awkward situation created by Lord Śiva.

Even an envious demon will not refuse the help of a brāhmaṇa’s potency to gain his ends.

Ones work becomes successful by the help of others (dhrtaih pumbhih). Therefore you should tell me your intention, so that I can assist you with the strength of my brahma tejas.

He speaks for relieving him of fatigue. If it is proper (alam) for us (naḥ) to hear, tell what you want. Yuṣmad is used out of respect. Naḥ (plural) is used out of respect to gain his trust. You are able to do anything (vibho)! Instead of prayaśaḥ sometimes puruṣa-vyāghra (tiger among men) is seen. One accomplishes one’s purposes by others under one’s control (dhṛtaiḥ) or by others who assist. It is suitable for a great man to have his works done by others.
