Translation
Do not minimize my ability, which was good enough to satisfy Lord Śiva, O brāhmaṇa. I will bring back your sons, dear master, even if I have to defeat Death himself in battle.

“You cannot insult me, for I have satisfied even Lord Śiva by my prowess when we were both hunting in the forest. I had a fight with Lord Śiva, who appeared before me as a hunter, and when I satisfied him by my prowess he gave me the weapon known as Pāśupata. Do not doubt my chivalry. I shall bring back your sons even if I have to fight with death personified.”

He had satisfied Śiva, who was disguised as a tribal, pleasing him by his equal strength. The details are given in Mahābhārata. To console the brāhmaṇa he makes a promise. Decisively defeating (vi—jitya) death himself on the battlefield, I will bring back all the children, not just one son. This is a statement of pride since he was feeling miserable, with some anger at his friend Kṛṣṇa, famous as the protector of brāhmaṇas, but who had ignored the brāhmaṇa. Kṛṣṇa showed indifference to the brāhmaṇa in order to increase the longing of Mahāviṣṇu, as expressed later with dvijātmajā me yuvayor didṛkṣuṇā mayopanītā: I brought the brāhmaṇa’s sons here because I wanted to see the two of you. (verse 58) Ultimately Kṛṣṇa satisfied the brāhmaṇa and Mahā-viṣṇu.

Do not disrespect my power. He elaborates this to everyone. He had satisfied Śiva, who was disguised as a tribal man, pleasing him by his equal strength. The details are given in Mahābhārata. To console the brāhmaṇa he makes a promise. Decisively defeating (vi—jitya) death himself on the battlefield, I will bring back all the children who died, not just the ninth son.
O master (prabho)! This by your power, not mine. He comforts the brāhmaṇa by his humility, or indicates his brāhmaṇa status. He repeatedly calls him to make the brāhmaṇa face him, giving him faith. Or this pride sometimes arises even in a person who feel lowly, which arises as the nature of great devotion. It is arranged by the Lord who inspired him internally and externally as master of the senses to bring his devotee closer with great respect, to make the devotee understand the glory of being equals as friends, in order to have pastimes of friendship, since Kṛṣṇa cannot tolerate any end to friendly actions.
