Verse text

ahaṁ-tattvād vikurvāṇān mano vaikārikād abhūt vaikārikāś ca ye devā arthābhivyaṣjanaṁ yataḥ

Synonyms

aham tattvāt — from the principle of false ego ; vikurvāṇāt by transformation ; manaḥ the mind ; vaikārikāt by interaction with the mode of goodness ; abhūt generated ; vaikārikāḥ by interaction with goodness ; ca also ; ye all these ; devāḥ demigods ; artha the phenomenon ; abhivyaṣjanam physical knowledge ; yataḥ the source .

Translation

The false ego is transformed into mind by interaction with the mode of goodness. All the demigods who control the phenomenal world are also products of the same principle, namely the interaction of false ego and the mode of goodness.

Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

From the transformation of ahaṅkāra in sattva arose the mind. The sense devatās also arose from ahaṅkāra in sattva and from the devatās of the senses, the sense objects become revealed. Those who are devatās such as dik-devatās [Note: These devatās are the adhidaiva or kārtṛ mentioned in verse 29.] arose from ahaṇkaṛa in sattva and from those devatās (yataḥ) the sense objects (artha) such as sound are revealed. .

Purport

False ego interacting with the different modes of material nature is the source of all materials in the phenomenal world.
