दुरुक्तौ कलिराधत्त भयं मृत्युं च सत्तम । तयोश्च मिथुनं जज्ञे यातना निरयस्तथा ॥ ४ ॥

Verse text

duruktau kalir ādhatta bhayaṁ mṛtyuṁ ca sattama tayoś ca mithunaṁ jajṣe yātanā nirayas tathā

Synonyms

duruktau — in Durukti ; kaliḥ — Kali ; ādhatta — produced ; bhayam — Fearfulness ; mṛtyum — Death ; ca — and ; sat — tama — O greatest of all good men ; tayoḥ — of those two ; ca — and ; mithunam — by combination ; jajṣe — were produced ; yātanā — Excessive Pain ; nirayaḥ — Hell ; tathā — as well .

Translation

O greatest of all good men, by the combination of Kali and Harsh Speech were born children named Mṛtyu (Death) and Bhīti (Fear). From the combination of Mṛtyu and Bhīti came children named Yātanā (Excessive Pain) and Niraya (Hell).

O greatest of good men! Quarrel produced in Profanity the children named Fear and Death. From the combination of Death and Fear came children named Pain and Hell. One may ask about the favorable and unfavorable elements for bhakti, the ultimate method described in the scriptures. The elements ending with Hell, the family members of Adharma, have been described as the elements to be avoided.
