Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: After hearing about the activities of Prahlāda Mahārāja, the chief of the great devotees, which are adored among the assembly of devotees, Yudhiṣṭhira again inquired from the Nārada with joy. In ten chapters, the pure inclinations arising from devotion to the Lord [Note: Inclination refers to ūti, the fifth topic of Bhāgavatam.] have been described. In five chapters the excellence of varṇāśrama for material sustenance is now explained. In the eleventh chapter Nārada describes the duties of the normal varṇas such as brāhmaṇas, and also the duties of women and mixed varṇas. Having explained great mercy as the cause of inclination to bhakti without mixture of the guṇas, in five chapters Nārada now explains niṣkāma-karma-yoga as the cause of inclinations for a type of bhakti which is mixed with the guṇas. Īhitaṁ sādhu-sabhā-sabhājitaṁ means “actions respected in the assembly of devotees.” Mahattamāgraṇyaḥ means “Prahlāda, the chief of the great devotees.”
