न वयं मन्यमानानामात्मानं तत्र साधनम् ।
गिरो व: साधुशोच्यानां गृह्णीमो मर्मताडना: ॥ ९ ॥

na vayaṁ manyamānānām
ātmānaṁ tatra sādhanam
giro vaḥ sādhu-śocyānāṁ
gṛhṇīmo marma-tāḍanāḥ

Translation
You demigods think that your own selves are the cause of your attaining fame and victory. Because of your ignorance, saintly persons feel sorry for you. Therefore, although your words afflict the heart, we do not accept them.
Translation (Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
We do not accept these words which afflict the heart, since they are spoken persons who are condemned by the virtuous, who think that they are the cause of their attaining fame and victory.
You think that you are the cause of victory and defeat (tatra), because of pride and ignorance. Just as you, though living, are condemned by the virtuous, we, though dead, will not be criticized.
