इत्युक्तस्तन्मतं ज्ञात्वा गत: स वरुणान्तिकम् । आनीय दत्त्वा तानश्वानुपयेमे वराननाम् ॥ ७ ॥

Verse text

ity uktas tan-mataṁ jṣātvā gataḥ sa varuṇāntikam ānīya dattvā tān aśvān upayeme varānanām

Synonyms

iti thus ; uktaḥ having been requested ; tat matam — his mind ; jṣātvā (the sage) could understand ; gataḥ went ; saḥ he ; varuṇa antikam — to the place of Varuṇa ; ānīya having brought ; dattvā and after delivering ; tān those ; aśvān horses ; upayeme married ; vara ānanām — the beautiful daughter of King Gādhi .

Translation

When King Gādhi made this demand, the great sage Ṛcīka could understand the King’s mind. Therefore he went to the demigod Varuṇa and brought from him the one thousand horses that Gādhi had demanded. After delivering these horses, the sage married the King’s beautiful daughter.

When King Gādhi said this, the sage could understand the King's mind. Therefore he went to Varuṇa and brought from him the one thousand horses and gave them to Gādhi. He then married the King's beautiful daughter.
