khaḍga-pāṇir jighāṁsayā
kṛṣṇam abhyadravat kruddhaḥ
pataṅga iva pāvakam

Translation
Then Rukmī leaped down from his chariot and, sword in hand, rushed furiously toward Kṛṣṇa to kill Him, like a bird flying into the wind.

Being repeatedly baffled in his attempts, Rukmī took his sword and ran swiftly toward Kṛṣṇa, just as a fly proceeds toward a fire.

Because his weapons were destroyed (tataḥ), being angry, he jumped from the chariot and ran towards Kṛṣṇa, like a bird in the wind: he was running to his death.
