ततो रथादवप्लुत्य खड्‍गपाणिर्जिघांसया ।

कृष्णमभ्यद्रवत् क्रुद्ध: पतङ्ग इव पावकम् ॥ ३० ॥

Verse text

tato rathād avaplutya

khaḍga-pāṇir jighāṁsayā

kṛṣṇam abhyadravat kruddhaḥ

pataṅga iva pāvakam

Synonyms

tataḥ — then ; rathāt — from his chariot ; avaplutya — leaping down ; khaḍga — a sword ; paṇiḥ — in his hand ; jighāṁsayā — with the desire to kill ; kṛṣṇam — Lord Kṛṣṇa ; abhyadravat — he ran toward ; kruddhaḥ — furious ; pataṅgaḥ — a bird ; iva — as ; pāvakam — the wind.

Translation

Then Rukmī leaped down from his chariot and, sword in hand, rushed furiously toward Kṛṣṇa to kill Him, like a bird flying into the wind.

Being repeatedly baffled in his attempts, Rukmī took his sword and ran swiftly toward Kṛṣṇa, just as a fly proceeds toward a fire.

Rukmī ran directly at Kṛṣṇa.

Because his weapons were destroyed (tataḥ), being angry, he jumped from the chariot and ran towards Kṛṣṇa, like a bird in the wind: he was running to his death.
