Chapter Nineteen Dvārakāyāḥ prathama-durge Līlā-sarovara-hari-mandira-jṣāna-tīrtha-kṛśṇa-kuṇḍa-balabhadra-saro-gaṇeśa-tīrtha-dāna-sthala-māyā-tīrtha-māhātmyam In the First Fortress of Dvārakā, the Glories of Līlā-sarovara, Hari-mandira, Jṣāna-tīrtha, Kṛśṇa-kuṇḍa, Balabhadra-saraḥ, Gaṇeśa-tīrtha, Dāna-sthala, and Māyā-tīrtha

In the center of Dvārakā is a fortress 96 miles in size. Around that Lord Kṛśṇa had built a second fortress of 180 miles.

O king, around that is a third fortress 400 miles in size and the place of with many jewel palaces.

In the first fort Lord Kṛśṇa has 900,000 wonderful palaces.

O king, at the entrance to Śrī Rādhā's palace, is Līlā-sarovara lake, which was brought from Goloka, and which is the best of all holy places.

A sinner who, properly following pious vows, bathes in that lake, gives eight gifts of gold to qualified braśhmaṇas, and then bows down before the brāhmaṇas, becomes free of the sins performed in many millions of births. Of this there is no doubt. At the time of his death a great chariot effulgent as thousands of suns comes from Goloka for his sake. Of that there is no doubt. Then he becomes a liberated soul handsome like ten Kāmadevas, dark-complexioned, splendid like thousands of suns, dressed in yellow garments, flower garlands, and jewel earrings, fanned with cāmaras, honored with calls of “Victory" and the music of flutes and drums, and surrounded by thousands of friends, and then he mounts the chariot and goes to Goloka. Of this there is no doubt.

Lord Kṛśṇa is very happy to stay in his heart always. All opulences and perfections worship him of their own accord.

A person who sees Lord Kṛśṇa's palace becomes liberated. His life is a success. No devotee is his equal. No holy place is his equal.

Lord Kṛśṇa's palace is forty miles in size. A hundred dhanus from it is Kṛśṇa-kuṇḍa, a lake created by Lord Kṛśṇa's power.

By bathing in that lake, Jāmbavatī's son Sāmba was cured of leprosy. Simply by seeing that lake one is freed from all sins.

O king of Mithilā, eighteens steps to the east is the great lake Balabhadra-saraḥ, the best of all holy places.

After circumambulating the entire earth, Lord Balarāma performed a yajṣa at that lake. There he was very glorious with Revatī by His side.

A person who bathes in that lake becomes free of all sins. The pious result of circumambulating the earth is not difficult for him to attain.

O king, a thousand dhanus south of Lord Kṛśṇa's palace is a great holy place sacred to Gaṇeśa.

When her son Pradyumna was an infant not ten days old Rukmiṇī worshiped Gaṇeśa at that place.

O great king, a person who bathes there and gives gold in charity to the brāhmaṇas attains a good son and his dynasty expands.

O king, two hundred dhanus west of Lord Kṛśṇa's palace is auspicious and beautiful Dāna-tīrtha.

catur-guṇaṁ tu rajataṁ paṭṭāmbara-śataṁ tathā tathā sahasra-maulyāni nava-ratnāni yāni ca yo dadāti nara-śreśṭhas tasya puṇya-phalaṁ śṛṇu aśvamedha-sahasrāṇi rājasūya-śatāni ca tatra—there; śrī-kṛśṇacandrasya—of Lord Kṛśṇacandra; nityam—regularly; dānam—chrity; karoti—gives; yaḥ—one who; tatra—there; snātvā—bathing; naraḥ—a person; rājan—O king; dvi-phalam—double; kāñcanam—gold; tathā—so; catur-guṇam—four times; tu—and; rajatam—silver; paṭṭāmbara—costly garments; śatam—a hunbdred times; tathā tathā—in that way; sahasra-maulyāni—a thousand times the value; nava-ratnāni—nine jewels; yāni—which; ca—and; yaḥ—who; dadāti—gives; nara-śreśṭhaḥ—the best of men; tasya—ofhim; puṇya-phalam—the pious result; śṛṇu—please hear; aśvamedha-sahasrāṇi—a thousand asvamedha-yajnas; rājasūya-śatāni—a hundred rajasuya-yajnas; ca—and. Please hear the pious result attained by giving charity there. A person who in this place regularly bathes and gives in charity to Lord Kṛśṇa gold, four times as much silver, a hundred costly garments, and the nine kinds of jewels valuable thousands of times over, attains the pious result of performing a thousand aśvamedha-yajṣas and a hundred rājasūya-yajṣas.

The pious result one attains by a pilgrimage to Badarikāśrama is not equal to one sixteenth of the result of a pilgrimage to Dāna-tīrtha.

One who bathes and gives charity at Saindhavāraṇya when the sun is in Aires attains a great pious result. One who bathes and gives charity at Utpalāvarta when the sun is in Taurus attains a pious result a hundred thousand times greater. Of this there is no doubt.

O king of Videha, a person who for one month bathes and gives charity at Dāna-tīrtha attains a pious reuslt ten million times greater than that.

Yamarāja's scribe, Citragupta, cannot understand how great is his pious benefit. The demigod Brahmā cannot describe the glories of Dāna-tīrtha.

Giving a horse in charity is great charity. Still, giving an elephant is better than giving a horse and giving a chariot is better than giving an elephant.

O king, giving land is better than giving a chariot, and giving food is better than giving land. Giving food is said be be great charity.

There never has been nor will there ever be another charity as good as giving food. The demigods, sages, pitās and bhūtas are all pleased by a gift of food.

A noble-hearted person who gives charity at Dāna-tīrtha becomes free of the three debts and goes to the transcendental abode of Lord Viśṇu.

He delivers ten relatives in his father's family, ten in his mother's family, and ten in his wife's family.

They all attain splendid four-armed spiritual forms. Dressed in yellow garments, wearing garlands of flowers, and riding on Garuḍa, they fly to the Supreme Lord's transcendental abode.

O tiger of kings, one mile north of Lord Kṛśṇa's palace is beautiful Māyā-tīrtha.

Goddess Durgā, who removes all troubles and kills the cruel and wicked, always stays there.

In this place, when her son had gone to Jāmbavān's cave to recover the Syamantaka jewel, Devakī worshiped Goddess Durgā and offered her the best of fruits.

When Lord Kṛśṇa returned from that cave with Satyabhāmā and the Syamantaka jewel, Devakī considered that was the result of her worship at Māyā-tīrtha.

A person who bathes at Māyā-tīrtha and worships Goddess Durgā attains all his desires. Of this there is no doubt.
